Understanding Runes

Could someone please spell out what runes do/are for/how you get them/etc.? I just unlocked one recently and have no idea how to access it.

Use expert salvage kit on it and u may or may not get that rune if you do double click on it and apply it to one of ur armors.

is it possible, then, to remove a rune and replace it with another later on?

I need to know this too, cause I have 3 runes in waiting and I dont want to waste them on my weak armor if I'm about to upgrade.

Runes cannot be removed, but they can be replaced.

So don't worry about taking up the slot and not being able to change it later. But you might be careful about using a rune if you think you'll be switching armor anytime soon, as you will not be able to take it out.

where can runes be found? can they be bought or do u receive them through quests/battle?

where can i get an expert salvage kit? need one o' those, too.

Runes are salvaged using Expert Salvage Kits on purple salvage items. (Remember to identify the item first.)

You can first buy them in Yak's Bend. (That's after you finish the "Nolani Academy" mission.)

Not entirely true. When I upgraded my armor, I successfully expert-salvaged all 3 of the runes I had on my old armor. Now, I don't know if I just got lucky or if it always lets you salvage 'em.

enemies drop salvage items that are unidentified and identifying them will unlock the runes but you need to use an expert salvage kit (which you can first buy in yak's bend) to actually get the rune. Its up to chance whether or not you get it but once you unlock it, you can use it with your PVP characters.

BTW I have salvaged runes off of blue, purple, and yellow items.

Yeah, a buddy of mine had started to put his old armor in the wastebasket thing. I think he disposed of 2 items before I could tell him to try expert salvaging them LOL. One had a rune.

They most certainly CAN be removed from your armor, but it's a LOWER chance than drops... from my experience it's a 50/50 thing.

Do same types of runes stack? I mean you put one +1 on an armor and another +1 on an other armor?

Cause my +1 Air armor for Elementalist isn't picking up the +1 Rune I put on it.
Even tho it the stats say otherwise.

Storm's Eye of Minor Air Magic
Armor: 51
Air Magic +1 (Armor Bonus)
Improves Air Magic (Rune Bonus)

And then I have an air rune on my chest piece. But I'm thinking the Dual Air buffs on my Head piece isn't working.

Could be a bug tho? I dunno but I feel as if it's a wasted rune if it isn't...

I just migrated from SWG and this is my third day ingame. I have been a forum junkie trying to read and digest it all pretty fast (YES, I did a search).

however, i have read all these links about the "RUNE" and im still confused.

can you explain in more details?...

you mentioned 'unlock' ..what is that?

salvaging the "RUNE"? exact how to (yes I salvaged before..maybe the question answer above will answer this one).
