Yeah, our server is under a DDOS attack so just make yourself and me feel better while inserting your very own curse word here to describe people that do this.

Yeah, sadly give it a few minutes. You'll get a Page Cannot be Displayed error.

I got a 404 once. Other times it was just really slow loading times and the forum's skin would sometimes "vanish", making it look highly white and unprofessional.

*looks at GWOnlinet* ;O ! lol, just kidding.

And for whoever doesn't know what DDOS means, well, there's quite a few definitions:

# A type of denial of service attack in which an attacker uses malicious code installed on various computers to attack a single target. An attacker may use this method to have a greater effect on the target than is possible with a single attacking machine.

# On the Internet, a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is one in which a multitude of compromised systems attack a single target, thereby causing denial of service for users of the targeted system. The flood of incoming messages to the target system essentially forces it to shut down, thereby denying service to the system to legitimate users.

# Distributed DoS, denial of service attack made simultaneously from various directions

# A denial of service (DoS) attack floods a network with an overwhelming amount of traffic, slowing its response time for legitimate traffic or grinding it to a halt completely. The more common attacks use built-in “features” of the TCP/IP protocol to create exponential amounts of network traffic.

# A denial-of-service attack (also, DoS attack) is an attack on a computer system or network that causes a loss of service to users, typically the loss of network connectivity and services by consuming the bandwidth of the victim network or overloading the computational resources of the victim system.

^^ Explains the 250+ Guests on the forums right now? Lol ;\

If we were a low-budget place running on the admin's lappy, then is it possible that you could trace the IP address back to the source? Norton's Firewall does that. If it successfully blocks an attack, it gives you the IP address (and even a general location, if memory serves).

Maybe GW Ogaming is it? Or maybe some bum who just hates all MMORPGs because he got scammed back in his EQ Golden Years.

How many people have access to enough host computers to bring down the site. Considering this site is barely ever down in my experience in comparison to gwo, the server mustn't be near max load most of the time.

LOL, stay away from the site feedback forum!!! I like people who think that No, we have our share of problems just like any other site. Some weeks are good, others are bad.

That sort of information could (should?) be in the WHM (WebHost Manager) of GWGuru.com...

Hmm. Anyway, had another 404 moment a while ago. Apparently 'tis still going in bursts. Nice technical conversation about this thread, though.

A good word would be ACFanboi, or Association Conflicts Fanboy. AC is the new arch enemy of Guild Wars. 'Tis like GW but on a smaller scale.

Yes, it is happening in bursts. I'll keep you all updated though

DDoS attacks are inherently immune to tracing, as they come from a large number of machines, large enough that it's impractical to block all of them.

DOS attacks can be traced and shut down easily though.

Someone posted an interesting thread about a back door into UW just before the site went down which is now gone, is this a result of the attack?

As we continue to work on it... good news. It's not us they hate L2Guru is the focus. Of course, it doesn't help us but hey, I'm just glad it wasn't someone from GWG. Focus on the positive!
