Whats with people?

What I dont understand is how something in the game becomes the item of great attration. For example CANDY CANE SHARDS!! There almost damn useless. Yeah u get a new weapon with it, but its manily for looks and it only take 4 or 5 to craft it. So whats with the price of them going to 2k and higher? Expecially when they drop everywhere. Then we you mention the fact that this is just a game people get way pissed. I just don't get it. I must be missing something. Can someone enlighten me?

The novelty of a holiday item that won't be around forever (collectors are drawn to this the most). Not to mention players have gold that pretty much serves next to no purpose with nothing to spend it on. They want the item so much they're willing to spend more than the average player probably has on them to get what they want.

Also, some players may not know that they drop from every monster. Does everyone know where crystalline swords can drop?

I'm quite bummed that the weapons aren't modable . . . I went and bought a 19% enchantments mod just so I could use my candy cane sword on my IW ra/me, but it didn't take Guess I'll stick to my crystalline.

I think you answered your own question when you said that this is "just a game". People play GW to be free and have fun, and if they get giddy like little school girls over little candy cane shards, then who cares? Besides, what's so wrong about wasting your money in GW? It's not like you have to save up for retirement or college. Money in GW is basically there so you can spend it to have fun. If people spend it to get an insta fix on the newest thing, then so what? It gives them pleasure and the person who sells it enjoys the trade, so I see no problem and no reason to talk down about others decisions to do such.

Don't take it so serious! It's CHRISTMAS! Enjoy the update and don't sweat the small stuff! If they wanna buy the shards so be it... I will keep every one of mine to make collectables. Everyone take a deep breath and relax!

Not to mention almost every single Wintersday NPC has been dropping hints about some battle to take place between Grenth and Dwayna which you will need the candycane weapons to participate in... Seems like a pretty good use for candy shards to me...

I agree, probably night before, or christmas day there will be battles involving ppl with either peppermint or gingerbread shields/focus item, and candy weapons. *I* will be there, along with others who play the game just for fun. Like everyone else has said, its christmas, enjoy it, it only comes once a year.

Well if people wanna pay 2k thats fine with me I bought a whole bunch cheap earlier and made weapons sold them for 25-50k each and had 21 cc shards left and sold them for 2k each. I was super poor till today :P

in the 70's somebody put a rock in a little cardboard box, called it a Pet Rock, and sold millions of them.
