Daiken Beowulf you need to switch your secondary to Mesmer because of the Elemental Resistance. When ER is on the damage you recieve will decrease enormously.
With Elemental Resistance + Dolyak Signet, you really shouldn't receive much damage from imps at all.
You could probably try with an equivalent Earth or Water spells, like maybe Armor of Earth, or Armor of Mist.

Yikes, who ressurected this corpse??
Daiken, as I tell anyone and everyone, if you don't listen, the blame is on you. Two guys just told you what your problem is, and there's no way around it. Without Elemental Resistance, you're just going to get destroyed. The equipment, armor, and skills recommended are chosen for a reason. When I go there (I make a run occasionally for nostalgia purposes), I get numbers like this:

Yes if you count them, I have somewhere between 18 and 20 Ice Imps aggroed, and I'm just laughing them off. And I had already killed 4 before I took this screenshot. Even the new Siege Ice Golems do almost no damage to me at all. Who cares about Rust if you never have to heal?
But hey, do it your own way if you must, just don't complain about getting waxed.

First, thank everyone for all the great info,
My problem seems to be on the slope just before you get into the caves. I can usually run without dying to that point, but just before the entrance is littered with avicara, ice imps, an ice golem or so, and a troll i beleive, all muddled together. I can't run past them since they slow me, and I can't just toss on the elemental protection as then the avicara chew me up. I tried standing and fighting but, I find I can't beat the avicara there. the build is the standard w/m axe build introduced here. Is this a common problem, or do i just have to figure out how to beat up the avicara better...
cheers

Just Kill the Giants
Just posting this in case anyone else had this problem
By the way, I don't have the defend droks quest but I still the slew of giants outside the entrance to the narrow path where you make the final run up to the caves. The problem for me is that i never yet recieved the defend droks quests, but I still enjoy running around in this area just to find places.
I used to try and out run the giants which is a pain, but then i realized I can just beat the crap out of all of them. Its quite easy with dolyaks sig since they never knock you down and you have all day to heal with heal sig. Take on a small group, pummell them and then go. At the same time you get to earse some DP if you happen to have any.

Ice imps and ice golems are all nice and easy but what do you do when the bloody chickens spawn mixed with them at then entrance of the cave (which they always do for me)
Luring them away fails miserably and fighting is just plain suicide.
I've read through this entire topic and i must say i'm surprised i havent seen people with the same problem

I frequently have the same problem. I'm not sure if its just random spawn placement that you can't do anything about or not. I suspect it has something to do with the amount of time it takes you to get there. If I have a long run there, they seem to be located in with the imps. If you make it in at a reasonable pace they are separated and it is easier to lure them back and run past em.

I'd be surprised if anyone even reads this. I dusted off my w/mo IDS build cause it's fun to solo, especially since griffon farming got nerfed. All I've ever seen is the w/me build, which I've never used 'cause I don't like mesmers
So here's the w/mo build I use:
Healing prayers: 9 (You want +3 Mending and +12 hp per hit with LV)
Swordsmanship: 12 (Sup rune)
Strength: 12 (Helm + Minor rune)
Tactics: 9 (Minor rune)
Sever Artery
Final Thrust / Galrath Slash
Sprint
Charge!
Live Vicariously
Mending
Healing Sig
Dolyak Sig
Charge! obviously just speeds the run up a bit, if I didn't take it I'd probably have Watch Yourself or Healing Hands instead.
Put Mending on for the whole run, then LV before entering the cave. Obviously you won't have any energy regen now, but you don't need energy with this build.
What I do is pull groups of imps with a bow and immediately walk away to pull because the ice hexes slow you down; sometimes it helps to hit Sprint to get a little extra distance. I use Glad's chest & leg armor for +5 energy, so after casting the 2 enchants, I have 20 energy, which gives 4 uses of a 5 energy cost skill.
I use a Shocking Long Sword of Warding, 15^50, Ele armor +7 and Thorgall's Shield (Malinon's, if I had it :P ) for the imps, and Crimson Carapace stance shield with an HP+ weapon for the run.
I find that Shocking does more damage than when I had a Fire hilt, could be just me tho.

Somehow siege ice golems keep casting rust on me which SERIOUSLY slows healing sig..any suggestions on how to avoid this?
