I had a situation where I was doing random PvP (4x4) and the random team was doing fine till one of our members (w/mo I think) was talking some very bad un-sportsman smack during and after the match. I shouted near the end of the match that I can't stay with you due to X language before we won.
It offended me so much to be on his team that I left after we won the match but BEFORE the next round so they would get a replacement for me.
Do you think I did the right thing? - Also prepared for being possible flamed for this.
What would cause you to leave a non-build pvp match?

Personally, I commend you for having the descency to handle it the way you did, many people would simply leave the team hanging a player short. I don't mind a bit of trash talk, but there are far too many people of the mindset as the person you described. As TD said, take a screenie of what they're saying, and report them, that's all you can really do to try to deal with the way they act. I also agree 100% with his last statement. I would, however, say that, if you don't feel comfortable playing with a particular person on your team, don't feel obligated to stay for the sake of the others on your team, they may or may not feel as you do, and will have to handle the situation in thier own ways.

Let me start by saying that I LOVE trash talk. I thrive on it, talk ons of smack to me you want, it'll just bring me back to play again. I particularly enjoy being called a n00b by someone on the other, losing, team after the match.
But there is a limit. I'll leave when teammates start throwing around racial slurs (after the match, of course). That sort of thing is uncalled for, and there are certainly better ways to insult a person that will make 'em cry (or come back with a more effective build) without having to go there.
So, you did the right thing, Eternal. Well done. If you're offended, just leave. After people start having their teams drop on them repeatedly due to their conduct, they'll either stop playing or stop the behavior. It's more fun to get a winning team that can go for a streak than have 3 players drop every round.

I play in the comp. arena to have a quick battle, to have some fun, to try out a build and - yes - to farm some faction while doing that (though there are more efficient ways of gaining faction if you are a good pvp player). That means playing to win, hoping to get a team that actually behaves like a team and having a good time. People who behave like you describe yourself as behaving ruin my fun (I hate guys leaving just when I am rezzing them or leaving as soon as they see the team has no monk, etc.) It is utterly selfish and you are wasting your teammates time, as you are clearly there for other purposes than to enjoy a good battle.
The idea that you would play pvp as a means of farming faction only seems odd to me. As you can only use faction to play pvp, what are you farming for? Do you have a similar view of GvG (good faction, leave if the other team is a high rank) and tombs (don't care about winning, only about farming fame)?
Don't take this as a personal attack, btw, I am merely disagreeing with you about what the 'right' reasons for leaving a battle in the competition arena's are.

Roza makes a really good point. If all you're concerned about in the arenas is farming for faction then what exactly is the point? You're not having fun and you're screwing up the match for others with the premature quitting.
And I've noticed every quitter says the same thing about quitting if "they arent rezzed in 10 seconds" Is there some sort of quitter's guide book that all these quitters follow that says the limit is 10 seconds?

Hm, if I die in competition arenas - and I see that my team is capable of ressing me, as in, they are not under heavy fire, or the opposing team only has 3, yet they choose to not res me I don't really see why I should hang around. I wouldn't be so quick to leave after only 10 seconds (even through realistically I _should_ be raised within 10 seconds), but if I can see I'm not going to get raised, then I will - seriously unless you have an opponent who you are guarenteed to finish off, or unless the dead ally ran far away before dying then you should be clicking res signet
I've recently created a monk for pvp.... let's just say people are a lot more eager to res the monk than they are say.. a mesmer.

I think you were right to leave too - I've seen some pretty bad abbuse in there, and you left in a way which was fair to everyone. I've left for less. Even if I have some guy saying the very original "alt f4" comments I won't be staying after the match has ended

Agreed Yesitsrob, if it looks like your team is not going to rez you at all, you should feel free to leave. Sometimes they will have good reasons for not rezzing you (such as when they have already won the battle and a chasing a remaining opponent or trying to bring down a self-healing wa/mo or something), in which case they will win and get another player if you leave. Might not be wise to leave then though.
That is, if you are even interested in winning and are not just interested in farming faction by acumulating kills, like some.

Your statement is not entirely true. I've won a game 2 vs 4 before in the fire island map. 2 of my teammates left before they get rezzed and we were able to get one more kill than the other team before the time ran off. If our teammates hadn't left us, the game would have been easier.
I do not appreciate people who leave their teammate because they "think they didn't get rez on time". For your information, interrupt ranger is a popular build in CA and it is possible to ger interrupted while using ressurection signet(distracting shot adds 20 to the rez recharge time). Sometimes, it takes me 4 tries to get my rez off due to the interrupts and knockdowns.
I play at tomb and I can assure you that nobody leave the game if they don't get rezzed within 10 seconds for whatever reason. I'm sure you wouldn't either. Then, why the discrimination in CA?

When I play Arena's I LOVE trash talking. Especially if it's after my team wins. That gets me in such a good mood, as the frequent "noob, you suck" etc etc comments give you a confidence boost.
What I hate, is people making those comments when they win, or when they kill you. THAT gets on my nerves.
