Why can't you make a pale white-skinned character?

If you try and use the skin color for pale snowy white, it doesn't show up when your character is created.

Actually, no, I don't. I made a pale skin elementalist chick who came out just fine.

Maybe it's a technical error of some kind?

I dunno. I'm messing around with the shadow settings and stuff..its jsut the skin of her won't look snowy white like at the creation screen.

Try updating your video card drivers to the latest version. Or try reinstalling the game, perhaps it's an error in your DAT file (mapping in the wrong texture for your skin).

Also keep in mind the game features realistic lighting, which means your skin color (and everything else) will change depending on lighting conditions.

Yeh, it might be some corrupt file. I mean, the skin looks fine in the character creation screen, but is different in game. I can't quite figure that out.

Something I have noticed - is that the pale pale skin tones don't really show up well until Post Searing. PreSearing is all bright and sunny, and I think it collides somehow.

Can we be sure its just a sunny pre-searin?

With my elementalist, the login screen has skin like snow. Soon as I join the game, even under shadows, the skin is fair. Major differences.

Yes, It is the same way with my Elementalist. Once I went through the searing, her skin showed up pale as well. So, I am fairly certain its presearing.

What you can do is grab the first few mission, get to level 3, then go through the academy as a test to see what color the skin hue is - then always delete her and remake her to start over. Shouldnt take maybe 20 minutes.

But yes, I guess there is a change. The lighting for this game is pretty weird.

I had a similar problem with a mesmer - the character was created with an olive-tone skin, and as soon as she went through the sear, she became fair-skinned, the olive tone still shows up in the inventory window, but in game and in the login screen are both fair. I can't tell if it's the bizarre post-sear lighting or some bug. If it's the lighting, why is it fair in the login? And if it's a bug, why is it correct in the inventory?
