I get so sick of seeing the same moron 4 or 5 times per page of responses. Then I go to another forum, and, lo and behold, there's the same nimrod with 4 or 5 reponses on a page. This just makes me want to not read any forums. Thoughtful people don't need to see their name in pixels all over the place. Thoughtless people can either form more comprehensive responses, edit their existing responses, or beat their monitors into little pieces out of frustration.

Limit people to 5 posts per day, please
1 pages • Page 1
Ummm. I totally disagree with you. Some people have a lot of feedback for certain topics. For me, a forum is more interesting when people stick with a topic, and don't just post and never check it again. 4-5 posts in a row that all are centered around the same thing, that would annoy me, but come on, let people talk. Whats the use in eliminating peoples ability to talk on forums?
Double posting is against the rules. If you see a double post, report it. Spam posts are against the rules. If you see a spam post, report it.
Intelligent, analytical posts are not against the rules. Nor will they be. Elaborating on a new point that's brought up is not spamming, and it is not offensive in any manner. If you have a grudge against a specific user, just ignore them.
I think that covers just about all of the details.

As much as I hate people who post just make an appearance, limiting to 5 a day would kind of take away the purpose of posting. In no way could that ever happen. Instead of making a limit, have mods monitor people who post useless crap and take away priveleges if the persist. In the end it's all going to be based on opinion of what is crap and what is not
I sympathize with you, John. You have no idea how big of a headache it gives us mods to see something like that.
Limiting it to 5 per day might be a bit on the fascism side, but if you see double posts or anything out of line, PM me or other mods asap and we'll take care of it (I think reporting a post sends us an email, and I don't regularly check the email I'm using for this site, so it might take a while longer). I know Savio gets kicks out of deleting posts on a regular basis

Maybe a 25 post per day limit?
Refreshes every 24 hours?
So people won't spam as much worthless comments as they are now.
Seriously, The forum is getting owned by people who are looking to gain ranking, by posting a worthless comment, or simply by typing one sentence that doesn't even help the topic at all.
It's getting old.

I don't want to spend my time being faux mod. I'm not talking about double posting or objectionable posts, just the posts from people arguing about nothing over and over and over. They have little to nothing to contribute, but they just can't stop posting. Kind of like me. Also the OMFG THAT SO ROXXORZS type of post.
This is the kind of page that makes me never want to return to this thread. It has such fabulous features as: 3+ posts on the page by 3 or more people, 3 consecutive posts by one person (all different - EDIT HELLO), huge quotes for little or no reason, off-topic rants, name-calling, name-calling chastising. Yes, a true gem:

I think I understand why a posting limit will never be introduced here. Fan sites must be able to brag about being the best by showing a heavy post count. So, the posts I object to are the ones you want to pad your post count. Oh, and the revenue from ads comes from people creating and reading more and more pages. So, posting limit = lower ad revenue. Heck, you should hire me as a professional troll. I can get people to post uncontrollably with great ease.

John,
A posting limit would never be introduced because the majority of people do not want it. This is a public forum for discussion and yes some of that, just like in real life, is mindless drivel. You can't very well go up to people in your office and ask them to stop conversation because you do not find it interesting or contributes to your work environment. And even with a 5 post a day limit there would still be some that got through. Then I'd have my email box flooded with people who wanted me to remove a post so they could post somewhere else, questions on why there is a 5 post a day limit (because only a small percentage of people even read the forum rules or guidelines), or people making multiple accounts so that they can post more.
So nothing changes.
Obvioulsy, from the page you posted... people were having a conversation. The moderators of this forum do so much more than you realize. There are hundreds upon hundreds of posts deleted every week. Hundreds of threads closed and moved to the appropriate sections. Hundreds of PM's between mods and users exchanged. This is a community, and if someone truly wants to make this community better then if they see a problem report it. We are happy to look into it.

Well John while I do disagree with the idea in question, you have to
think about that link you posted for a second.
It's a feedback poll. Everyone, read, EVERYONE thinks their opinion is
important, regardless of how it's presented and the thoughts behind it,
if any. Even if it's something as mundane as 'OMG MINIONS ARE TOO UBER NOW'
is posted with the intent that it will be taken into consideration and Minion
Masters will be nerfed within seconds of the post.
Which we all know, isn't the case.
Bitching begets bitching, etc etc.
If you can't beat em, ignore em hon.
I browse maybe....3-4 threads per visit here now.
Regardless, /unsigned

It's getting old. Most people rarely if ever touch 25 posts per day. Most of the regular posters here float between 1-10 posts per day. The only ones who do are the hardcore spam... er, posters in Offtopic. They are perhaps the only people who care the slightest bit about ranking, and they usually stay in line better then the rest of the posters.
As for John, I don't remember where another mod said it, but there isn't a forum rule against idiocy. Sure, their points may be stupid and rather vague, but so long as it isn't "every other post" spam, flamebait, or otherwise breaking the rules, we can't delete just because we feel they're dumb. Well, we could, but we don't.

Savio and Inde are correct. You just can't limit the posts like that. Trust me on this, I was just about to ask for Mod-Ship a month or so ago when all I saw in the Off Topic was one person's name on two whole pages. I was willing to go in and do some surgery. I would have been nice about it...however, FIRM!
Off-Topic forum is kind of a loop hole. It gets allot more slack then the other forums. That is it's function to be a catch all to the spam. I post allot in there because it is fun to talk with the kids. Get them thinking about other things besides just kid stuff. Then I will lurk in the other forums for ideas and tips.

If you see a spam post, report it.
What we need is some sort of automated AI script to do this. One idea for example would be to have a script that just takes every other post and reports it. The script would probably be about 80% accurate.
The big problem of course is that "spam" means something different to everyone. I personally think guru is about 50% spam at the moment but I realize my definition of spam isn't in line with the majority.
BTW I love this new AJAX inline editing stuff. Sooooo cool. Wish I had the money for vB heh.

I think he has a point in the OP, but a 5 post limit is kinda small. I think one liner posts should be locked out completely (i am as guilty as anyone of this one sometimes) and I think that would really shorten the problem to a smaller realm. If you cannot post only one line per post, the nimrods will become overwhelmed and flabbergasted at the idea that, in order to be heard, they must complete a complete thought.

Well on the other hand...."Less can be more".
But, I understand what you are saying though....
