It took me 180 hours of PvP alone (with waiting time included) just to make Rank 3. Of course, I gained almost all of my fame from PUGs (and every time I joined a decent guild group such as XoO, UV etc) they bombed. Maybe 180 hours is typical but then I'll hear of someone who made it in a few days, and I can't help but be struck by the unfairness of it all.
How long did it take you (per rank) in terms of PvP (Tombs) hours?
How long did it take you to make ranks 3-9?

4200 fame in 3 months. then i stopped playing tombs. i have been gvging exclusively for the last couple of months. i figure when im bored some time i should go get my rank 9, but honestly, i dont like tombs because its so boring and it has too much crap (flavors of the month), too many newbs, and doesnt show skill, while gvg does.

and 1000 fame in a day is over acting

Try making some friends with people that have lots of friends. Eventually you'll have invites into the top guilds and you won't even have to be that good. |
and once they notice ur outI find gaining rank in tombs is a very slow (and therefore tedious) process. After many months of playing tombs a few times a week or so, I still don't have any /rank deer to show for it, which I find rather dissappointing.
I have been playing tombs for months now (not every day and not for hours at a time, but fairly regularly still) and I am still on 101 fame only. I do not lose every battle or something (I think it must be a ratio of about 50-50 slowly improving) and while I am not a great player or anything, I am not a noob either. And I don't play pugs anymore because 1. They tend to lose most of the time. 2. They do not employ any strategies most of the time (I am in Europe) or if they do, it is IWAY (which is boring). 3. Good Pugs want rank 3 at least. When I play, I play with my guild.
I just wish that there was something else you could earn (perhaps indicative of your win/loss ratio, your tendency to leave or stick with teams, your performance in teams, etc.) Maybe there should be a player-rating like there is a guild rating or something.

In one weekend i went from 75 to 180. then stopped doing PvP for a while and now that i started back up ive gone from 180 to 325 in this past week. so just depends on what kind of group you are in and the ability to win. but most of all just have fun, because why would someone want to play agame thats not fun.

Even with good builds and players, one's ability to gain fame a lot is limited by having to wait for good players to congregate together.
After every run or two, at least one player will usually have to leave. Replacing a good player with another good player can often take quite a bit of time.
Waiting wastes a lot of time, no matter what rank a person is.
As for how long it took me to get to rank 3 and 6: I have mentally blocked out those memories from my brain due to the great mental trauma that all the zillions of crappy parties I had to endure have caused me.
