Purple named items question

I got two purple named items, a charr shman garb, and a staff. Well, i savaged them and got multiple items, but should i have waited to use an expert salvage kit on them?

Anyone have any similiar experiences? Or answers?

Aww. You should definately always use expert salvage on yellow and purple, and oftentimes on blue items. You can get nifty rare crafting materials, upgrade components, runes . . .

When you say purple item do you mean that the item name is purple or is the item icon itself purple in color?
