Skill points are used to purchase a skill from the trainer not like the attribute points where you can allocate them. At least I think this is what you are asking.

I was going to ask if the quest is bugged, but for a different reason. When I freed the prisoners, I didn't think that was who I was supposed to save for the bonus, but right as he said his last comment he ran off. Ok, so I turn around to read it and I get the shield on the screen with the sword through it and I got 1000 exp. Ok, I figure I got the bonus for the mission. Right? But the quest log still showed the bonus as uncompleted. hmm. Wound up finishing up the quest, got another 1000 exp and a skill point but only one sword went through the shield at the very end. Even the map only shows the one sword.
Any ideas on what happened?

Any ideas on what happened? Similar thing happened to my friend last night. We killed the Ice Drake on Borlis Pass, but for some reason I got the bonus mission sword through the shield and he did not. He did get the xp though. Weird.

ok this is what i did.. after i freed the guys i got the mession with 1 sword through the sheild and then continued to the wall and completed the second part of the mission and the animation did 1 sword through the shield, when i get back to Ranik and looked at the Travel map it did have both swords through it. so this seems to be completed for me. but you spoke of a bonus mission? what is this

well i did get a bonus mission now that i think of it. at the begining of the mission after you fight the first wave of charr there is a guy on a hill that you speak to and he gives you a letter to take to his wife. this letter is delievered to her after the missions are over and you go to Asc. she is right outide of Asc. its only 500 XP
and are you sure that is a bonus mission? becasue there are always 2 quest to complete for each mission that you do to complete the whole thing? so that woudl not be a bonus? just part 1 of a 2 part requirement.

freeing the prisoners is the bonus mission as it updates the quest log with the info for it. If you check the quest log after speaking to the person mentioning freeing the prisoners, you'll see the requirements and it'll say "BONUS" The part that confuses me is that the bonus asks you to free some guy who has a name (at work and I can't look it up). When I got to the prisoners, the two there had generic titles, yet I got the sword through the shield animation as if I had completed the bonus mission.

I must be really pathetic but I cannot finish this mission to save my life! I'm a level 12 Necro/Mes.... I take the henchmen with me and when we get to the wall with all the Charr, I choke! I do the catapult thing, kill them off... but by the time I get my team up to the wall they are swarming through again and we all get killed pretty much instantly. What in Dwayna's name am I doing wrong??

LOL, in Dwayna's name... Anyway, there's another catapult to the north of the catapult you have to fix. There's a patrol of 2-3 charr who you can take out and then load the catapult, lure charr out of the wall (most of the time they either run after you for a whole while or they run back safely behind the wall, this technique is based on that they run after you for a whole while), run back to the catapult and the charr should run back to the wall. Now shoot of the catapult and it'll probably hit a lot of them making it easier to knock the rest out for you.

those are the 2 where you go under the bridge and the path curves to the left but if you go up and to the right you find them
one of them should say Deeter Saberlin and as soon as you release them they run back to the big door area where the father is for the bonus
