where can i get some (around the old ascalon area)?

You need to get an expert salvage kit and things that would normally salvage for iron have a chance of being salvaged for steel.

There is also a materials trader outside ruined Ascalon that creates steel ignots. He will want iron and charcoal. If I remember well charcoal can also be created but I don't remember which materials are used. My guess wood would be used to create charcoal.

There is a charcoal crafter just outside Fort Ranik.

Enter 'steel'
Select 'thread title only'
Click 'submit'
and you'll get what you want
