2) Is a 55 monks a protection or healer?

1. No. Everything in PvE packs enchantment removal. And PvP as well.
2. Yes.

yea it depends on your build now. you can use a 55 build for just about anything except PvP now. It mostly depends what your facing. So just be careful with it and mix your builds. Many feel the best is protection smite warrior combo. I personally like the smite ele combo. with anything extra in healing. but thats not a farming build. and I swap out armors to make that work... so its expensive for runes and all... But it works nicely for uber PvE support builds.

yeah it's protection and smite, they can do pvp in arenas since most people don't bring anything to take enchaments away, but they're not to useful except for melee players

I have seen more than 1 monk in Videos get 15% DP on propose and end up with 8 HP. Then just keep the normal Prot. spells on and healing breeze..and no melee could touch them (all attacks on them did 1 dmg, most attakcs were blocked/evaded anyway, and even if they were damaging him +10 helath regen made it where his bar didnt even move).

By "Prot spells" I presume you mean Protective Spirit and Protective Bond. The problem is that these work off of the initial maximum health so there's no advantage to accumulating DP. If you started with 55 health then Protective Sprit will let no more than 5-6 damage in. And if you have DP enough to drive your health down to 8 it's still going to allow 5-6 damage.

I have no idea what they used as far as all the prot. spells go, but I noticed some different skills than when I watched a 55/105 monk farm.

But I know that he acculated 15% DP to get to 8 hp ON PROPOSE, and was only getting hit for 1s. Then half way through the battle, he changed armor to put a Sup Vigor on and get his HP back up to its original (or around that) and they started hitting like 4-5s, but with the helath regen, the bar still barely moved.

The video should be down in one of the other forums..I forgot which though. If you find it watch it (its in German though :\ So I couldnt read any descirptions when he used things).

Are you sure? I hate to question you, but I tested this with my Monk outside of Augury. I died once, bringing my HP down to 1 (which is inta-kill if I'm hit), so I equipped my -20 HP Icon (instead of -50) and my health went up to 8, and I took 1 damage per hit.

*Shrug*.

That's incorrect from all my experience. Protective Spirit and Bond reduce based on your CURRENT maximum hp. Go get a deep wound and you'll see.

Watched it again...He used the normal stuff that a 55/105 monk would use, except he added Mending and kept healing breeze on himself (full+10 helath regen all the time) - and at 8 HP..he surely was only getting hit with 1s...

So i'm not fully convinced Xue Yi Liang is sure about what he said.

(BTW, the vid of the 8hp monk taking 1 dmg a hit is Ember Fire Camp farming - in one of the lower forums here) - You can also see him Griffon farming with the same setup in another video on his guild site

Someone I met while doing Abaddon's Mouth with henchies offered to show me how he farmed griffins at Augury. Believe me when I say it's very easy to do with protective spirit and 8 hp by acquiring 15% dp.

Yes they only lose 1 hp because protective spirit reduces damage based on current maxed hp. So any damage taken is immediately negated with breeze.

I really cannot understand why Anet doesn't seem able to stop this nonsense.

geez. I stand corrected then.
Maybe I should start using Prot Spirit more often .... (I coulda sworn I tried this months ago ... but if it works for y'all I'm probably mistaken.)
thx

A normal healing/prot monk is much better suited to being in a party for missions.

Protective Spirit bases it's damage reduction on the current maximum health, including the DP reduction. If I die with a 55 build, rez, change focus items to get to 33 health, all damage taken is 3, not 5.
