I find monk as secondary a good part too the ranger, you can use it if you wish too become a beastmaster later on in the game, as the monk ability grants you access too Judges Insight, which helps pets damage.
I don't really find the conjures that effective.
But, remember, you can change later on in the game, however many times you wish.

i love my R/Me. Had her since release. Sure people don't like me, but I don't like them either so it's all good
My guildies and friends love me, coz not only do I ranger interupt, I can use backfire and mesmer interupts too. I rarely do use them, but if we're in a caster heavy area I step out of the damage dealing and make sure no caster does their job without pain.

I rarely do use them, but if we're in a caster heavy area I step out of the damage dealing and make sure no caster does their job without pain.If you're going to mostly avoid your secondary, then the choice is either monk for a raise spell, warriors for stances/shouts, or elementalist for extra damage. I'd reccommend monk or warrior, though more on the warrior just because if you go with monk you'll be expected to carry a raise spell all the time (which isn't a bad thing for most parties, but I prefer having 8 choice skills instead of 7).
