i just made a ranger, my fourth character, and i need a second profession for it. i probably wont use the second profession attributes/skills, i will just put points on the ranger attributes. what would be a good second profession?

well... if you wont use it it wont matter

you could go ele for damage (conjure)
you could go mesmer for more interruption abilities
you could go warrior to tank and what not
you could go monk fooooor... i dunno
and you could go for my fav - the necro, for condition spamming (virulence).

I find monk as secondary a good part too the ranger, you can use it if you wish too become a beastmaster later on in the game, as the monk ability grants you access too Judges Insight, which helps pets damage.

I don't really find the conjures that effective.

But, remember, you can change later on in the game, however many times you wish.

Regards,
Ashleigh.

For the reusable rez spells when you plan on spending all of your attribute points in ranger stuff. Rangers are a class that can do a lot without using their secondary at all, and if you find yourself in such a sitation, just go with /mo and take along the rez spell of choice rather than a rez sig. ...unless you're in PvP where rez sig is better anyway.

Monk because you can carry Resurrect and pick up Judge's Insight for the undead levels because poison is useless.

If you can find a gold Fire Damage Bow you can make this combo and it will be great
Conjure Flame + Kindle Arrows + Poison Arrow... You'll give too many damage with this combo (around 60 if your bow is great [and surely your fire ele skill])
So i say ele ....

Just go with a proffesion you've never had so you can unlock their skills. I have a ranger and i went with Messmer. I'll tell you that i didnt like it PvE.

Went thru most of the game as a R/Me. Changed to R/Mo and like it a lot better. Reasons stated in above post(s).

i love my R/Me. Had her since release. Sure people don't like me, but I don't like them either so it's all good My guildies and friends love me, coz not only do I ranger interupt, I can use backfire and mesmer interupts too. I rarely do use them, but if we're in a caster heavy area I step out of the damage dealing and make sure no caster does their job without pain.

Ranger/Monk, you can go support, or smite ranger as I used to.

BArrage and judge insight down in FoW does some nice damage.

If you're going to mostly avoid your secondary, then the choice is either monk for a raise spell, warriors for stances/shouts, or elementalist for extra damage. I'd reccommend monk or warrior, though more on the warrior just because if you go with monk you'll be expected to carry a raise spell all the time (which isn't a bad thing for most parties, but I prefer having 8 choice skills instead of 7).

i was ranger/necro for the whole game til i reach rings of fire and changed to monk or the rebirth. I find i was almost a minor monk with healing springs, healing breeze and rebirth and put in the few ignite arrows.
