Character jumps around (not related to lag)

For some reason my character jumps around a lot. It really limits the amount of fun I can have in this because every 3 steps I take forward I take 1 step back. Combat does not jump around, it happens only when I'm moving.

I have a pretty high end computer, but even when I turn the graphics down, my character jumps around like I'm lagging or something.

I had the same problem in WoW until I turned software mouse on or off (I forget which) which fixed it temporarily, until Blizzard finally released a patch the fixed the problem altogether. This game has no such option for me to try.

Sounds like a latency issue. Probably not a hardware problem. I get it too. Not so much in Pre-Searing, but a lot in PvP and Later in the PvE game.

I don't think it's latency, I play WoW with a low ping and Counterstrike Source with a very low ping, I can get as low as 30ms. And if the lag is on the GW server end, then everyone would be getting this horrible lag, and apparently they are not.

I dunno. To me lag=latency. Either it's caused by your jumps or it's caused by server issues. Either way it's packets taking longer to get to your client than your client takes to process them.

Let's call it GW lag. Server side.

So why would I be having way way more lag than the average GW player? I live in Houston, Texas, not exactly in a remote location.

And yes, I use high speed internet (cable), not dial-up. I've played many many other games with no lag whatsoever.

Are you routed through a firewall, or is there anything local that may be taking away from the network bandwidth during gameplay?

According to what I've read, GW utilizes a little different streaming method than most other online games. There may be something interrupting the connection locally, that might not show up in other games using a different technology.

Things that come to mind... spyware or trojans sending information, constant port or IP switching from the router or ISP, background network processes and services like Windows Messenger, ports open that are used for bit torrent activity, disk I/O set to use available network bandwidth... those are the ones off the top of my head. Could be none of them, of course.

Interesting. I use a router, but it doesn't effect my ping or my lag in other games at all. I guess it could possibly be the source of this issue, HOWEVER, I didn't notice this "lag" until tonight. Before the little mini-patch I downloaded before I played today, I had no "lag", no jumpy character.

The mini-patch seemed to fix the crash issue I was having, and introduced this jumpy issue I am now experiencing.

It could be possible that a number of people decided to use the cable all at once, lowering your overall connection to your ISP by using up more of the line.

Actually I'm using an ATI 9600. Like I said, before the patch I was having no "lag". But I *was* having crash issues. Now the crashes are gone, and the "lag" is in.

I played it early in the morning for like 30 minutes and it was much better, so maybe it is related to GW server lag after all.

Got me all curious now.

Let me know if it happens again, routers, firewalls and port issues could cause the lag problem, the crashing one has to be the games problem if no other programs (games) are crashing on you.

I have like the same problem...

I will click somebody or somthing and it will Teleport to it.

I will teleport inside the persons body but it takes a min for me to beable to talk to it.

It is really strange like i dont run when i click on something to attack i just teleport to it and it shows my body inside what i clicked but i cant do anything to it.

This is one of my issues as well. Click on gold and you're on top of it, an NPC and you're on top of it, monster and.. well you get the point.

Although when it's a monster, after a short time my character will warp back to his max range & begin attacking.

It's good to know that I'm not the only person who's experiencing these issues.

For the record I'm using a Netgear router. As I understand it the game had issues with this very router at one point before release(?).

It could very well be your ISP's fault. This happens all the time.

EDIT - A Netgear router? Hmmm. You should chuck that and get a D-Link for 60 bucks (40 or 50 USD). It's the S604 version or something (may or may not be an S in the name, go search around). Anyway, it's a very good router for the price, and is idiot proof.

I have the same problem. I use my keyboard too walk around but when i have walked a while or when i click on a NPC my character gets teleported back down the road i just travelled. Its really annoying, it does that a lot lately. Especially when you wlak towards something and he teleports back the road, you wlak on and he teleports back even further away. Sometimes it worse than other times. I really don't think its my internet connection since it works fine with other programs and downloads like a madman.

I'm not sure but it seems too me that the main problem is that the fact you click on a NPC he changes your position, each time, no matter howl ong you have wlaked or if you haven't done anything. like you where not really there already but still walking towards him.

If its really lag i wouldl ike too know how too solve it... Perhaps lower the Resolution and Texture detail?

I've noticed the same issue. Walking around fine....see and enemy and click on him to attack and teleport to his location. I end up superimposed on the enemy and then I need to click on him again to attack. It happens randomly and only when I am a good distance away. Could be lag....

The game is no longer crashing in pre-searing, which is good.

Yes, that is really annoying. Im on 400kb cable at home, with a brand new 3.4ghz comp, geforce 6800 256mb etc.

Whenever I try to make a sharp turn on maps while im running I always get the rubber-band bounce back unless I turn around and change my path. It happens in pvp sometimes as well, not fun.

In WinXP, the Task Manager gauges the total amount allocated to an application, more of a potential usage, rather than what it is actually using. It may actually be using only 50% of the allocated resources, but has set aside the rest in case it needs it quickly. If another application is started, then the unused resources become available.

Edit: I know this because it's a big issue when trying to run multiple pro audio applications in a live setting that each want to allocate the total resources, and has inspired many discussions on various forums. The Task Manager cpu gauge is confusing, as it doesn't show the actual usage taking place.
