problem with Vanguard Equipment quest

I'm having a problem with this quest, something seems missing...

**spoilers below **



I talked to Gelsan. He told me to retrieve the stolen equipment, but still had an exclemation mark above him. I followed the arrow, got to the green star on the map, and there was nothing there, except a few Moa Birds. I went back to Gelsan and he had no new dialogue. What exactly am I supposed to do here? Bring the birds back to him or something? heh

You need to pick up a box marked "Vanguard Equipment" or something like that. It should be with bandits somewhere around the dot on your map.

and if it isn't?
I've killed all the bandits in the area, explored a little in each direction from the star and saw nothing. Kept on pressing the left Alt button because I was paranoid, but that didn't show anything either.
Is it hidden even if you hold down alt?

I've seen it being carried by bandits, maybe one of them carried it somewhere strange?

You've seen them carry it? Interesting.
I didn't see any bandits carrying anything...
Just to be sure, the green star (on the map) was near the bridge, right?

Yeah, the last time I did the quest, the chest was being carried by a bandit. He was walking towards me on the path (I was headed towards the star, he was headed away). Don't know how far he can get with it.

Ok I've tried the above quest 3 times, and nothing.
Is there a quest i must complete before trying this one? Is there a quest I shouldn't complete before trying this one? Anyone have any ideas?

I'm having problems at the same point as well. Have you been successfull, Venom?

I also had this problem once before. I warped back to Fort Ranik and tried the mission again and it worked (2nd time). I also noticed that the green star shows you where the group of bandits is around, not exactly the location of the bandit carrying the box. You should eventually see a bandit carrying a box - that's your guy. I guess just keep trying until you find the guy, that's what I did until he finally appeared.

If this happens to you, it is most likely that the stolen goods are with the group of bandits that are directly on the other side of the mountain behind the merchant.

Also double check what you see on the screen, it looked like a normal chest to me when I did it last month with my Mesmer
