Warriors can't kill me, they just can't!

Hi everyone,

Just to let you know that I managed to create a build that is invincible against warriors, almost perfect against elementalists, and is quite decent against spell casters like necros and mesmers. Here it is:

Let me explain how it works. First of all, Conjure lightning is just to make more damage, since i use a lightning bow. You could use something else, it does not matter. I just have this skill en permanence in my build.

The real trick here is done with Oath Shot (1). When I use a defense, Whirlwind (7) or Dryder's defense (8), they do exactly what they are suppose to do, except that they take forever to recharge. That's exactly why Oath Shot comes in the equation: it recharges those 2 excellent skills, especially Dryder's defense that costs only 5, and that gives an additional [51] armor bonus against the elements. Very good. So, how do I play?

1. Conjure lightning.
2. Apply poison, then attack, and at the same time cast one of the 2 defenses, it does not matter. If I see elementalists, I use 8, if I see rangers, I use 7. At this point, you should see the Warriors swinging blades in the air. Sometimes, it hits. Pfff, I don't care: plenty of time to cast my Troll's ungent.
3. Then at this point, it is time to use my Oath Shot and make sure not to miss. But it is easy. I shoot arrows without clicking first, if it hits, bingo: everthing is recharged... and we start over again.

I use 2 defensive spells cause I have noticed that there might be a gap if warriors keep on attacking you. But with Oath Shot and 2 defensive skill, you are always on defense. Always.

Some might argue that the Detemined Shot (2) should be an interrupt. I agree. And quite frankly, you can put there whatever you want. For my part, I prefer skills that cost 5, no more.

But with this build, I assure you, no Warrior can take you down.

warriors should really run wild blow and that gets round the stances. throw dirt is a very good anti warrior skill for rangers.

This is a semi situational setup would be pretty nice ... really nice for the 4v4 arenas, however i will say in tombs a smart team could tear ya apart because of skill stopping spells/skills.(but then again unless your really pissing off the other team they arent comming after ya, and your only true piss off skill here is poison...so it depends)

Vicha, can you tell us your attribute distribution?

this can probably seriously annoy one warrior, but most likely what they will do is switch targets when they see themselves getting blocked. and then later all your stances are recharging.... anyway thats my experience with stances.

By the way, I just finished a 9 run session with 3 other good players, and I did not die once! I swear. Last round, the match was going over 6 minutes, 1 guy left and then we started loosing. But at the end, I was alone with 3 guys on me, the other one healing those guys. They dropped me. But honnestly, I have never tried a better build up until now.

Oh, and one more thing! I can hear some of you saying, "yea, I can counter this build!" And I agree. There is always a situation where someone will outperform another player. But this build is a real jack of all trade, and I would not be afaid to get out with it in PvE. Try it, if you can!

Good evening. Going to bed now.

Degen, shadow, holy, and dark damages used by someone else will kill this also besides what was already posted.

Which means you are good against warriors without cunning or wild blow and/or the stance ignoring attacks and rangers without stance ignoring attacks, ignite, conjure, kindle.

Very good all around ele defense though.

i think this build is mainly meant for PvE maybe some PvP(not too heavy) in PvE it can rock imo, cause it really can replace a warrior as tank giving you 1 more dmg dealer slot, so you kind of got the puller and tank in 1 slot

Nice build

doesn't really make sense. It's just an extremely defensive build on a character that doesn't need defense...I mean to say that if they can't kill you, they move on to a different target (though they probably started with the different targets anyway). Once you're the only one left, they will get through you unless it's a garbage group of 4.

This build isnt that good IMO, it is a luck based build.. If you dont get the evasion off your doomed, it is quite the annoying build but yet not very effective, if you are killing one warrior and there comes a monk... The warrior will stay healed and slowly... you will die.

Agreed. Luck and enemy matchup is a major part of this.

As it was said, Wild Blow will leave you wide open, and I
can't see this being able to hold it's own against Knockdown
(Meteor, etc) or interruption (Savage Shot/Slash/Disrupting
Chop, Cry of Frustration, etc)

It's good, there's no dispute there, but you'd need to be durn
lucky to pull it off on a regular basis.

Once you're the only one left, they will get through you unless it's a garbage group of 4. Yea, right. But most of the time, I never am the "only one left". Once you notice that you receive a poison arrow in the butt repeatedly, you start figuring out that perhaps it would be a good idea to drop down the archer. And in PvP arena I always start my attacks the same way:

1. Apply poison; attack;
2. [Tab]
3. Attack
4. [Tab]
5. Attack
6. [Tab] oups it's a pet!
7. [Tab]
8. Attack

You see, at some point, very soon in the match, I am the target: I receive lighting on my head, my life bar turns pink, whatever. So, once again, I know that there are many of you out there that say "Yea, I can drop this Ranger with Wild Blow, Life Transfer..." or whatever skill you want.

What I am saying is that, this has been up until now MY MOST EFFECTIVE BUILD, that is, i stay alive and I kill enemies. It is not a question of just staying alive against an enemy that stays alive. I KILL!

And I have tried many other builds, some with a lot of fire power: Conjure lightning + Kindle Arrows + Double arrows, I have played the anti-caster with interrupts, I have played half ranger, half elementalist (Gale, Blinding flash...), I have played the trapper (which can be quite fun actually).

But again, with this build, I have more FUN.

Just to let you know. End of [this] story.

ranger builds that focus too much on melee evasion are no good. Any decent team is no going to chase some ranger around and until others are dead.... its just like noob warriors that overload with self survival skills in pvp: they dont help your team win but only delay an inevitable loss.

playable build for RA. played in the past something similar, was fun to see so much clueless warriors wasting time on me.

remarks:
no. 7 is Whirling Defense, not 'whirlwind'
no. 2 is Called Shot, not 'Determined Shot'

points for your consideration:
take poins out of Beastmastery. Why have points in BM while you don't have any BM skills?
put expertise at 9, 13 or 14
Just check the table to find the best expertise spots for you link
Conjure Lightning --> Kindle arrows (and empty air magic points to wilderness/expertise)
no.2 --> interrupt. defenitely.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong...but what kind of person goes into a PVP as a "jack-of-all-trades" character?
The point of PVP is teamwork, and that means relying on a monk to heal you!
Personally, using troll ungent seems a waste, when you could invest in an attack which could help your situation.
You have plenty of points stuck in air magic doing nothing except helping one skill, take blinding flash with you and THEN you'll be near warrior proof. Or take a knockdown, nothing is more annoying than a knockdown!

Personally, using troll ungent seems a waste, when you could invest in an attack which could help your situation. It's a little known area called "Competitive Arena." Although we don't like to admit it, we all started there.
