I have opened couple chests, all purples. Also today we were in UW and ALL that have opened (7/8 i believe) got purples too! This can be one big coincidence but... what's your opinion/experience about it?

I gave them the benefit of the doubt and purchased some more keys although i had sworn not to.
All purples... I sold the remaining keys back to the merchant rather than lose even more to the chests.
Just my observations.

Drops have improved for "most players"...guess I'm part of the supposed minority who's finding a whole boatload of crap today.

More instances of purples, definitely. But then again, I haven't encountered a "purple" item with no bonus (i.e. a max damage weapon with low req and nothing else to justify the "purple"). And found some very nice goldies today.

I've also gotten mostly purples today. AND they fixed the "random spawn position" of a chest that used to spawn right outside an outpost which I used to gamble on. Guess I'll have to find something other than keys to spend my money on from now on.

I don't bother buying keys anymore. If I find a key, I get to open a chest... otherwise I ignore them.

Only buy the following keys:

Ring of Fire Keys, Shiver Peak Keys, Sorrow's Furnace Keys, and Underworld or Fissure of Woe Keys. All the rest should only be found by monsters and are a waste of money to buy imo.

Even the shiverpeak keys are mostly a waste of money. Occasionally you get something worth more than the key but usually not often enough to ofset the difference, especially if you're going by what you'd pay for a key. One little secret tip that helps get better items is to wait... let someone else open the chest first, and approximately 10-12 seconds after the first person, open it yourself. This was passed on to me by someone else, and in my experience does seem to make a noticable difference.

Fissure keys are a waste of 1.5k. I opened a chest and got a non-max gold shadow bow with terrible mods, a friend of mine got... get this... a purple flame artifact.

Don't waste the money on it.

I've made about 90k in total off chests and probably spent a good 8k on keys; that isn't too bad but where's my swimming pool full of pudding? After making an elementalist against I only have 2k to my name

I'm surprised at you lot.

You KNOW that keys/chest contents are a gold sink. You KNOW that it's a gamble. You KNOW that if the contents of chests generally contained items that were more valuable than the keys themselves, that every single person in the game would do nothing but chest runs until their coffers were full or they got bored....

....so how come there's so many threads effectively saying "I'm not buying keys anymore. I never get anything good out of the chests"?

Most things I've gotten from the chests, except for mesmer items, I have been able to sell back for 600 gold or give to guildies. I don't call that gambling >.>

Well, I've noticed a slight increase. Before the patch I had about a dry run of about 10-12 chests. After the patch, I've been on a rare streak for about 4-5 chests!
