Too much. I can't afford buying many skills at a time which is so frustrating because I just changed my second prof so I could unlock skills. What are the benefits to this? I don't see ANY. People say that they had a hard time accumilating skill points even though it was EASY if you just spent them wisely and you aren't a chronic skill buyer. I just bought the skills I need at the moment and I always came back later. 1 plat is way too much IMO for the basic stuff. Makes me angry that I didn't stay up all night and all day buying skills when I had the chance.
And for those who will come here and see a negative aspect to the update from what I see and tag this a ''WHINER'' thread, you're not wanted here if all you're posting is,"HEY HEY HULLO WHY R U PLAYING DELETE THE GAME ANET IS AMZING." Constructive posts only, I really need explaining.
Like the update but the cost of skills...

That change doesn't really make sense. Why make it easier to acquire skill points, both through high exp quests and lower exp cap per point - and at the same time increase price of individual skill. Sure, there might've been people who paid more than 1p for skill - but that's only happened if you bought *a lot* of them. Myself, I regret not buying everything I could and massing SoCs before update.
And of course, for some, 1p is pocket money they get in 5 minutes - again, that's not *everyone*.

You can make 1 plat alot faster than you can make 1 skill point, so in reality it is easier to unlock another secondary profession. Also, this provides a new gold sink which is needed. MANY PvP players complained that it takes too long to unlock skills and this significantly shortens the amount of time, also, it means you don't have to play multiple characters.
If I want to be able to play every single class in PvP, I had to either pay ALOT of gold to unlock skills for my 3rd/4th/5th secondary professions along with difficult to get skill points or play the game 3 times. Now people can play it once and just buy up all the skills on one primary character. If you are a casual player, you are not really screwed as almost all skills can be obtained from quests and the few that can't you don't really have to buy if you don't intend to use them. So you would be spending a bit more gold, but it's nothing that will cripple you. Steel used to be 2k gold a piece when the game first came out, now you can get them at bargain prices so even as a casual player you should have quite a bit of gold..

Gold sink = a mechanism which takes currency (gold) out of the game economy. Everytime you pay an npc for something, e.g. salvage kits, keys, or skills, that money disappears out of the game. Everytime you kill a monster and it drops gold, money enter the game. The economy is in balance when equal amounts of money enter the game and leave the game.
Apparently Anet has determined that more money entered than exited, which would eventually have led to hyperinflation, and added more gold sinks to counteract this.
The keys, xp scrolls, and skill cost are all obvious gold sinks.

there was too much gold in the economy.
1. the point of sigils being expensive was to promote that teamliness feeling. Anet wanted to help, more sigil drops. Now, there are 10322351835 paying people to join their guild.
2. too many people have maxed out gold. even in wow, its hard to find level 60's that maxxed gold.
this is despite the fact that gold is not as important as in other online games...strange.

The way I see it, you have two options. To gain new skills you either have to farm for exp or farm for gold, barring the creation of a new character just to run through and unlock things. It just so happens that farming gold is far easier than farming exp. It now takes me about half the time to get a new skill as it did previously.
Basically, I think this benefits end-game characters who are trying to obtain (note, not unlock) new skills on a current character, but might make the initial aquiring of new skills on new characters more difficult. That would encompass new characters created for the sole purpose of an unlocking run-through. However, with the permanent faction boosts, no one should be complaining anymore about unlocks. I'm only a very casual PvP player and I have no problem unlocking a great deal with faction.
To new players who are just starting out, this change will probably be harshest. I don't know how quickly the cost scales up to the cap of 1 plat, so I can't say for certain whether or not it's really a problem. The first time one should need to even worry about buying any number of skills is after switching secondaries, and by that point you've not only gotten your max armor (since you're already to Droknar's), but also your max weapons (collector's weapons FTW). What else is there that requires gold beyond this point besides vanity items? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the vanity items. I've got a storm bow, and several sets of 15k armor. The point is that there is little beyond this point that demands your gold. Previously I'd amassed over 200 plat solely because I was trying to earn some new skill points, and that's after I bought my 15k armors.
I'm quite glad to see that for once the thing that exists in abundance becoming useful and the things which were difficult to obtain are becoming more available.

Explosivebadger: Oh, MMORPGs need gold sinks, there's nothing bad about that. The downside of them is that they make it harder to become rich, the upside of them is that they maintain the value of the money you do manage to get hold of.
Also, with a bit of thinking one can avoid some gold sinks.
Jenosavel: It seems the scaling up of skill cost is very steep. I've got an avatar which got her first capture signet today, and by signet 3 or 4 I was already paying over 800 gold.

and yet the poor still complains..........
Just grabing some henchmen and exploring, the gold drops were nice, I can see getting 1k was not bad and all the excessive stuff sold to merchants very well or worst the slavage raw materials (to merchant traders). I've notice much more gold and nice drops that I can sell to make a quick turn around to be able to purchase skills. From a romp in one zone 3 items that would sold to merchants for over 400 gold in one trip.

Its actually cheaper for me to buy skills now with the skill points cost capped at 1,000 gold. Before the patch, each new skill already costs me 1,200+ gold
Furthermore with the new patch I have gained almost 30+ extra skill points due to the 15,000 exp for a new skill point instead of 20,400.
Regarding skill points changes, its a good update.
Thumbs up, ArenaNET.
Cheers.
