If so how does GW run? Will it even work on a 64MB video card? I'm thinking of buying one because GW doesn't run on my current crappy video card.

Heres the one I'm thinking of buying. Please look at it and give me some feedback.

Thanks.

I would think it would. I am playing it fairly smooth (doesn't look as great of course) on my laptop that only has 32mb. (GeForce Go420)

I have a PCI slot, not sure if I have a APG one. Newegg doesn't ship to Canada.

Maybe I'll just have to get a 128MB one. My parents probably won't fork out the money since they don't like me playing video games.

I run GW on both my desktop and laptop. My desktop is a 256MB NVidia 5700 and my laptop is a 64MB NVidia Go (or something like that). It runs just fine on my laptop, a little bit of graphical lag but not too bad. The thing is that it looks much better on my desktop. But the short answer is yes it will work with a 64MB card, but I recommend a 128MB card if you can. Good luck! See you in GW.

Try and save for a 6600 GT. I have one and its not as expensive as the higher end cards and it still runs very well.

That card you're thinking about getting is trash. I think the best bang for the buck is the geForce 6600 (or the GT version for a higher end) at about 100 bucks USD, or the ATI 9550 at about 65 bucks USD.

Fortunately for you, ZipZoomFly.com ships to Canada. They have prices and service comperable to Newegg.com, but they don't have those everpresent product reviews. Pick up this 128-bit 9550 here.

If you don't have an AGP slot, the best you can get for similar to that price is $55 for a Radeon 9200 PCI (128mb w/ 128-bit interface).

I'm currently running on a crappy 64mb, and I can run choppy on high, and fun on low But I'm getting a new card today.

I run it on the cheapest/oldest 128mb card my store had - and it only lags when entering a zone (for about 10 seconds) - then its fine..

I can deal with that to save almost 50 bucks lol.

I use a 64MB GeForce4 Ti4200 and it works just fine for Guild Wars.

I had that 7000 PCI in one of my kids my kids machines and it was so slow - I don't think it can handle GW.

Another purchasing method would be http://www.tigerdirect.ca , they're fairly good I find, I run GW on my other computer on a GeForce 3 Ti 200, and that runs fine for me.

i'm running a geforce4 440mx, and it lags a little on high settings, but its really noticeable when you swing the camera really fast. aside from that, it runs fine (for a 64mb card). i'm going to get around to upgrading my card soon so i can run HL2 and other games easier

It's not so much how much video memory as it is how powerful the GPU is. A sad little Radeon 9200 with 256MB RAM isn't going to run the game well ever, or better than a Radeon 9200 with 64MB because it's just not fast enough to use detail settings that would use up that RAM. And guess what? Low end cards with that much RAM always use slower RAM than their brothers with less RAM.

The cost for a cheap, slow high density RAM chip is better than a fast, low-density chip believe it or not. Weird supply/demand situation. That's why you don't see 256MB 6600GT. Because high density, fast RAM needed to meet the GT spec is too much money for that market level. And that's also why you see 6600 non GT with 256 (they use cheaper slow, high-density RAM chips).

So if you can get your hands on a Radeon 8500 with 64MB it will run a LOT better than a Radeon 9250 128MB LE. Not to mention that the LE cards have half the memory bandwidth because they cut the memory bus in half to cut cost. And the Radeon 9000-9250 are all cut back 8500 cores. 8500 is the fastest Radeon below a 9600.

On the Geforce side, do not buy anything below a Geforce 4 Ti(not MX). Avoid the FX series if you are buying today. They are poor chips. Anything in the 6x00 series is excellent. If you have a high end FX (like 5700/5900) you are ok for GW. Any other FX will be a POS.

Well, i'm currently running a FX5200 OC, and it does it's job, not well, however.

I still want a 6600GT ...
