can you buy a key online?

just spent two hours looking to buy this game and everywhere is sold out
but my mate just installed his copy and it gave him the option of buying a key online, so can i install his copy then buy a key online??

It wouldn't hurt to try. The software itself isn't tied to any individual key, so you can freely get it at http://www.guildwars.com/downloads/clientdownload.html (ignore all the beta weekend stuff, it's not relevant anymore). When you create an account it may very well be possible to buy a cd-key online.

I'm sorry I can't offer you a real answer regarding this. It never hurts to explore, and you're not doing anything bad by downloading the software.

I was wondering about that myself. Although I just went and spent the money at a local compUSA and did it that way. But my understanding is yeah, you can just buy a key for 50 bucks with his install.

Basically what you are buying is an account with a scratch off CD key. But I could be wrong.

borrowed my mates copy installed it, clicked the option to buy a key online and it takes you to the plaync store but seems its not up for purchase online yet or they changed there minds as the link to buy a key takes you to a dead end.
oh well just have to order a copy online and wait.
