For the ascalon census quest, in the area where the arrow ended up leading to, there was a chest that I assumed had the census in it. Alas, when I opened the chest tehre awas nothing in it. I'm pretty sure this is a bug, and when it's fixed it would be really cool to get the census in my inventory, because it's pretty annoying to venture that far out of town for nothing. Great game, find time to fix this when you can

Had henchies with you? I'd guess the census did pop out, but got assigned to a henchie.. Quest items should be assigned to human players, but guess that bit is little broken, or something
Had similar problem with Iron Horse Mines, with the quest where the warmachine plans were supposed to be stolen from Summit. It was in a chest, popped it open aaaand. Nothing.
Very, very annoying, as the trip isn't very easy either
Got it on the second try tho >.<

*point's to the date on the OP* That's an old bug that I believe got fixed age's ago. Henchies used to get the quest item drops reserved for them.. thus you had to re-do the quest to get the item drop. This bug caused no ends of grief .. and has since been fixed - you should always get the quest drop's assigned to you and never to henchies.
Kaguya - I admit it's been awhile since I've done that quest.. but you never used to get the plan's from a chest. You used to always get it as a drop from one of the Boss's there (I seemed to always get 2 bosses...). So unless they have changed the quest.. maybe thats your problem? Gotta get the drop from the boss...

*think*Think it was, it's a month or so since I tried, and I did kill everything up at that chest. Ah, the boss with warrior aura does drop it if I recall right. I didn't get it on the first try, second try yes.

Only quest items I've ever had drop for henchies has been the quest drops for the Bonus for the first mission.. you know where you need to collect 4 armor pieces. It once took me 6 runs through to get all four pieces due to the damned henchies getting the quest items assigned to them.. pfft! I knew they were getting them because I'd click the rubble.. they would fall over and nothing would pop-uout.. thus the henchies go the drops .. grrr!

The census is gotten from that chest - Just did it yesterday on a new character. I've never heard of killing the boss for it...
Another quest around there is broke for me though. "Sowing Seeds".
Hamnet gets about half way to Ascalon and just STOPS and doesn't move any closer to Ascalon. Talking to him didn't help (he just repeated the same statement), Killing every enemy wtihin 4000 mile of him didn't help...He just DIDNT MOVE.
He wasn't stuck on any terrian, because I aggroed a Gargoyle and brought it within range of him - and he ran over and joined the battle - Then ran RIGHT back to his little spot and refused to move again.
