Update on Items

We will be making some changes to the preorder items before we launch Guild Wars at 12:01 am Pacific Time tomorrow morning (April 28th). The first is that you'll be sure to get your items on each of your characters. New characters will have the items; existing characters will acquire them after you log out. Be sure you have room in your intentory, though, to hold that preorder item!

In addition, we've discovered that due to the fact that we did not have the opportunity to test the preorder items as thoroughly as the other in-game items, their stats needed to be modified. One of the issues was the fact that the base energy bonuses were unintentionally stacking. Because it's our foremost goal to make sure that Guild Wars is and remains a well-balanced and fair game, we’re changing a few item specs before the game goes live. Here's the new table of stats for the items:

• Shield - 6 Armor (if equipped without attribute)
  - 14 Al (8+ Tactics)
  - +2 energy (8+ Sword)
  - +2 energy (8+ Axe)
  
  Bow - 4-7 damage (if equipped without attribute)
  - 13-25 damage (10+ Bow)
  - Armor 5 (10+ Expertise)
  
  Hammer - 4-7 damage (if equipped without attribute)
  - 18-33 damage (9+ Hammer)
  - 20 health (5+ str)
  
  Monk Focus - 5 Base energy (if equipped without attribute)
  - 7 Energy (8 + smite)
  - 6 al (8+ prot)
  - 40 Health (8+ Healing)
  
  Necro Focus - 5 Base energy (if equipped without attribute)
  - 10 Energy (8+ Death)
  - 4 armor (8+ Curse)
  - 30 Health (8+ blood)
  
  Euro Focus - 5 Base Energy (if equipped without attribute)
  - 5 Armor (8+ Divine Favor)
  - 10 Energy (8+ Divine Favor)
  - 12 Energy (8+ Energy Storage)
  - 12 Energy (8+ Soul reaping)
  - 16 Al (8+ Str)
  - 10 Al (8+ expertise)
  - 12 energy (8+ Fast Casting)

hmm Euro focus seems to do a lot more than the others.. how is that fair to rest of us?

+20 possible energy just because you have both primary and secondary that has attributes to glean the most of it? that comes out to be MORE than a single bow or shield can do singlehandly...


sorry Gaile, but It seems that America is getting shortshafted by that item.

Actually, remember that all of those skills are primaries. So no, it doesn't add up, it affect only the single primary that a character would have.

Why are my preorder items on both characters missing? I had them yesterday.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I logged off yesterday with full inventories, so my items probably ended up getting lost. Hopefully I won't have to start all over just to get my damn item =/.

I logged on with 2 characters having two different types of pre-order weapons. However, I won't be complaining.

yup, mine has gone as well tried clearing space and relogging in, and it didn't appear... :/

That's quite a nerf on the initial damage without the attributes. Now the pre-order items are nearly worthless until your attributes can get to that level. To bad the item doesn't "grow" with you.

I was using an armor 6 ornate shield/buckler, which i really was hoping to use the k. targe and it only originally had 4 armor @ start.

not huge diff for pre-sear but now i get the nice look.hehe.

just a side question: atm the shield shows, armor: 14 (req. something 10? tactics)
and theres no "armor: 6" displayed. is it assumed there is 6 armor w/o attribute.

I have more than one preorder item on my characters.. My problem is how do I get rid of an unneeded preorder item.. Cant seem to drop it, sell it or salvage it.

Try destroying it?

Personally my bow disappeared at some point within the last hour or two. I finally got the 10 marksmanship and the bow is GONE! Very lame, hope I get it back soon.

IS the Bone Idol like a staff, and if it is - is it one or two handed, cuz id like to know if i can use a shield w/ it ! ? ! ?

One handed, and actually its I guess what you would call a secondary weapon. And its pretty decent too once you reach higher levels.

OH, so it would act as in the shield slot... thats interesting, hmm what Dark N' Evil weapon to use as Primary ?

Im lvl 8 and im still on a starter truncheon I cant find a decent weapon anywhere w/out paying more gold than I have

Yes, and not just for the Pre-Order items. You can use anything if you don't meet the requirement, you'll just use it at a less effective level. For example, if you found a focus that said Energy+10, Domination 9+ you could equip it and use it even if you didn't have 9 or more ranks in Domination and even if you weren't a Mesmer at all. It's just that rather than getting 10 energy you'd get something like 3. Although it doesn't say that on your pre-order items (and it probably should, a lot of people will just set them aside because they don't meet the requirements but when you start out a 6AL shield or a 5 energy focus is actually pretty good.) that's how they work. Gaile's just filled us in on just how much of a hit you take to that item's effectiveness before you can pump your attributes and meet the requirements.

I really don't like the manner they added a 'quick fix' for the preorder item problem some people were having, since it just created problems for others. It's rediculous to suggest that everyone will have space in their inventories at the time of the 'fix.' When can I expect to recieve my item back if ever?

Also this announcement was made at 6am GMT, before the majority of Europeans would have had time to react to the announcement.

Eh, I just want my Itha's Bow back -_-

I just want to know wether I have to reset my Warrior to get my Prism =/. If nothing is being done to address this issue then I'd be happy to hear it so I at least know what my position is.

Same here... my Ithas Bow completely disappeared!!
