Where will Sorrow's Furnace/Grenth's Footprint be on the map?

I've been all over the map. By 'all over', I mean, I've filled it out almost completely (except that darn spot in The Falls). Ever since I heard of the Summer Update and the new places being added, I've been trying to figure out where exactly they will be. I've considered it may be near the Grenth Statue area in southern Lornar's Pass or even connected to Dreadnought's Drift. It may even be in the spot between the bottom of the Frost Gate map and the Southern Shiverpeaks (its a pretty big empty space with a shadow of what looks to be a canyon or frozen lake in the middle). But with no concrete info on where its going to be, its anyones guess as to where ArenaNet has put it.

Anyone have any info/rumors/hints as to the future whereabouts of Sorrow's Furnace/Grenth's Footprint? Thanks

My guess would be 2 of the 3 unused Avatars in the Temple of Ages.

I'm guessing that this is Grenth's Footprint:

I also think that was the place you were referring to ;p

If you look at the description on the GW webpage, it sounds like it will be somewhere in the Lornar's Pass/Dreadnaught Drift/Snake Dance area, on the eastern side. It won't be at ToA, that's for certain. Oh, and word is that Grenth's Footprint will be the above-ground explorable area, with Sorrow's Furnace itself being a dungeon area underneath- kinda like the catacombs in pre-searing.

edit: yeah, super dooper has the right idea I think. Somewhere in that area.

I figured that area as well. I explored up in that area just yesterday, the little temple-like area near the Grenth statue is kind of mysterious. Maybe that will be the entrance. Of course, getting up to that point is a hard task itself. Took me about 2 hours of work to clear a path up there from Camp Rankor with a team of henchies, but clearing that up on my map was worth it. Hopefully, if that is the entrance to Sorrow's/Grenth's, A'net will add a new outpost we can map to.

I would expect so, seems a bit much to ask folks to stick together long enough to run/fight their way up there, then stick together all through Grenth's Footprint(assuming it's a solid, full-sized area with challenges enough for a group of ascended players), and then together for even longer STILL in the dungeon areas of Sorrow's Furnace itself. There just about NEEDS to be some kinda outpost in that area for folks to regroup and rearm themselves for further adventures into the new areas.

Hmm... prehaps from Grenth's Footprints you find the entrance to Sorrow's Furnace? Only the strong players with skills at the game would be able to make it there and earn whatever may be in the furnace.

I find it rather odd to assume that the entrace will be a god-statue..it doesnt have anything to do with a god..but with the Stone Summit.

My best guess would be a second entrance in Tascia (sp?) Demise, the area north of the Citadel HEAVILY infested by Summit.

yeah, but we can't just throw the idea out, I mean.. Grenth's Footprint.. an area that looks like a footprint on the map.. near a statue of Grenth..

Well I guess the area is correct, not many unexplored area left in Summit terrain, but I just dont think the entrance is a god statue -_-'> , Tasca's demise also borders to that area, and since its alot better/faster accessable from a town I guess it's a better guess ^^

Actually the Sorrows are the claw shaped peninsula to the south west of droknars. and the area in droknars that looks like a Ship dock is said to be the access portal to the new region... Since at the end of hell's precipice you go to droknars, this is a logical place for the next step in the story. (That is unless you have to do Hells Precipice mission again to get to it. which is also a possibility). I don't remember exactly where I found where that area was called the sorrows. it may have been in the Manuscripts that came with the game. I believe that this update will be mostly based on the Ruins of Orr... the last human culture from the storyline, Not addressed yet. We know the Charr never made it to Arah (Orrs capital city), but that the result was near complete devistation of the kingdom. and nearly all were lost in this region. I believe the Sage of Orr is the Lich... Personal opinion only. but From the story line that makes the most since. Since he turned to dark magics to try to save Orr, and instead destroryed it.

Edit: In fact that is where it was. In the part with the history of Tyria Pg 27. On the map... the Sea of Sorrows... is the Sea where the Guild Hall island is. The former Bay of Sirens (pre searing)[renamed in 1071 AE right after the first Guild Wars ended], is the likely staging ground for the new Explorable area. So the area to the south east of the guild and the south west of droknars is the likely location for the new areas.

Cantha is the land to the far south west, which does not appear on the map currently. that is the new content for Chapter Two.

I don't think the entrance will be the statue itself, but I'm thinking there will be an entrance near there in that little 'hall', 'cove', 'thingy', that leads back to the statue.

I guess we'll see when it comes out, I don't really care how we're going to access it, but I can't wait for it. :P (it is fun guessing though)

ok, to clarify things and dispell some of the more...curious ideas about where Grenth's Footprint and Sorrow's Furnace are located, here's the lowdown from the GW website's Lore Entry on Sorrow's Furnace:

Quote: On the eastern slopes of Lornar's Pass, north of Camp Rankor rests the deep, slag-strewn expanse of Grenth's Footprint. Once a sacred place for the dwarves of Deldrimor, the peak itself has been completely dismantled, and the land torn open to get at the precious metals beneath the soil. The Stone Summit have dug deep into the Shiverpeak Mountains. Underneath the stripped, barren land, are the all-but-depleted mining shafts of Sorrow's Furnace. So, unless they've changed it from what they're own lore says(which is possible but not likely), Grenth's Footprint will be somewhere in the Lornar's Pass/Dreadnaught Drifts/Snake Dance area, on the eastern side of those areas and(my guess is) somewhat closer to the northern end of that run than the south. But it sure doesn't sound to be a teleporting thing like UW and FoW, or anything directly accessible from the Forge. I do like the notion of an entrance from Tasca's Demise though, it would give that region some other purpose than just skill farming out to Mineral Springs. And, looking at the map a bit, it would fit pretty well as a southern entrypoint if Grenth's Footprint is where I think it will be.

I hope its at one of those statues we find in lornars or snake dance. I found the statue to LYssa and to my suprise got infused there plus there is the one in dreadnaughts and then another outside dreadnaughts in lornars. I like the idea that we have to play for an hour or two to get to something cool and rather not map to it.

do you have a shot of that area on the map? I can't really tell where it's at by looking at the compass. That would be cool.

edit: or is that the area by Runewhat'shisname and what'shisname with Skull Crack?

In one of the northen shiverpeak missions, I forget which one. (well ,there are only like 3)
has an area in it where you go over some bridges which look A HELL OF A LOT like the summer update video recently posted on guildwars.com.

I'm going to guess a new outpost, where you can go to Grenth's Footpring, where you can either clear it or run to strait to the furnace. Which, if true, would make the droknars forge run look like the run from Embassador Zain to Captain Osiric.
