This is utterly rediculous. For the last month and a half at least, I have not been able to connect to GW. It just sits at the ititial "Connecting to ArenaNet" screen at 0% and doesnt move. I even left it for like 2 hours one time, it didnt Eff-ing move. Considering I paid for this game it would be nice if the POS actually WORKED, what is the gdamn deal?

Quick Question "are you running a firewall ?" if so check its settings as it may be blocking GW from connecting

I get this at work. I allowed GW to run through the firewall but it still doesnt work. Probably for the better for me since I wouldnt get much work done if it did work ;p

My firewall is set up to allow Guildwars to both recieve and send information.

Does it use certain ports that might be blocked by my router?

What firewall do you have?

I have norton Internet Security, and for the past couple of weeks, it hasn't allowed Guild Wars even though I made it so it would. But whenever I turn off the firewall completely, I can play Guild Wars. I never had a problem with the firewall intefering with it before, but it has been lately.

... I would think that is a good thing.

But anyways, yes, try turning off your firewall protection, or even antivirus because it can construe the incomming connection from anet as something not nice.
If that doesnt work, then, I don't know. Hope you have warranty and return pc. /shrug

Many new firewalls like Norton Internet Security create fingerprints of the software running on your system. Since Guildwars updates itself quite frequently that fingerprint is subject to change quite often. I have heard many intances in which software based firewalls have prevented online connection becuase these fingerprints do not match and those are considered malicious attempts to connect to the internet and are denied. If you have a router, there is virtually no reason to have a software firewall of any kind, unless you are on a mobile platform, ie Laptop and move from one enviroment to another where internal network traffic could comprimise your system. Most routers if not all have a NAT or Network Adress Translation Hardware firewalls.

Shut em off and make sure that all the associated services ARE OFF. Zone alarm in particular runs a service that protects your connection even when zone alarm has been shutdown by point and click means. TrueVector if im not mistaken is the name of this service, if Zone Alram does this, you can bet that many of the Major name software firewalls do this as well.

Here's a thing to try, for a few seconds disable your router and firewalls then try connecting, if it works you know what the problem is.
