Exactly, just what I said.

The same goes for steel ingots. 10 for 12 plat (common materials trader) yet he buys 10 steel ingots for 300, or so.

I mean, of course the prices will increase. Nobody will sell to the trader with these ridiculous prices!

The economy in GW is beyond depressing. I logged in earlier with my new post-sear character and was just stunned at how the cost of pretty much everything has skyrocketed. Meanwhile the traders are still offering hardly anything at all on sale prices... it's pathetic.

Quite frankly, this may not be "the straw that broke the camel's back" for me regarding GW altogether, but it's really feeling like the next-to-last straw. I deeply hope that the new PvE content release coming up offers something. Otherwise, I'm just gonna uninstall this thing and get something else - and it's a total freakin' bummer that I'm feeling that way... really thought this game would last.

105 Monk Farmers are dumping a huge amount of money into the economy, bringing all prices up in the process. You'll notice that Ecto prices have remained fairly calm throughout all this.

Things that farmers would want, like Superior Monk runes and vanity items like Black Dye got driven through the roof in the process. All other desired items have had their prices spike as an aftereffect - people sell black dyes and superiors to monk farmers, then go and spend all the money they just made on items they'd want. Hence pretty much global inflation on all desirable items.

It's just the amount of money floating around the economy. A couple weeks ago farming was slow and gold prices reflected that. Now farming brings in 20, 30, 40, hell, 50k in a good hour. Prices are reflecting that new reality.

Peace,
-CxE

I just checked a few mins ago with the rune trader to see how much I could sell one of my major smite runes. 25g! But to buy it over 2k! What a joke!

Lets hope they just add something with enchantment removal or degen to the most abused areas rather than monkeying with perfectly good skills so they don't work right. If they went messing up skills every time somebody found an interesting way to use them, then pretty soon all the skills would be watered down versions of themselves.

What really disappoints me is that so far A.Net has shown no intention of being fast on the trigger to nip this thing in the bud. It's been a while now since the monk UW solo build made it into the public awareness. And the longer A.Net delays, the more the economy will suffer.

Personally I'm rather hoping for a skill fix instead of a quick enchantment removal bandaid. Otherwise said bandaid would, by necessity, have to be added to all other high level areas, lest they succomb to the same fate as UW.

i don't mean to run your comment down and this is kind of off-topic, but the difference between America and Germany around the 20's was that while people in America were saving up 50 cents for a can of beans, people in Germany were burning their money for heat

I agree, even out of the abusive PvE skills, protective bond was only hanging on a thread which was recently cut when the UW solo thing got out (I've seen sup. protection go for 76+K on the American servers.) They should either have made it 5% of your base (480 for lvl 20's) HP or "target ally cannot take more than x...y damage at one time."

i disagree. superior runes were given -health as a way to balance their power. it was ment to be a positive with a negative and not a double positive. this is going far beyond simply abusing a skill. the superior runes were not ment to be used in this way and something needs to be done about it.

what the hell are you guys trying to do? what are you going to do when there is no longer a way to farm and everything costs as much as it does now? regardless of what a.net says, there is grind in this game. what is the point of putting expensive armors in the game if there is no achievable way to get them?

Get their expensive armors all they want, they are fscking up the gameplay for the rest of us. Yes, you.. me.. the other guy over there.. I'm not speaking for "us" for the sake of it, I'm referring to US.

Do you intend to buy a superior monk rune for the sake of abusing protective bond?

No... but others do, and you are fscked for it.

Why are you buying furs?

To craft armor, but others are deliberately hoarding them. What makes hoarding possible? What makes it possible for a elite few to completely corner off a market? The poor offer prices of the traders.

What's happening to the dyes?

I have no fscking idea.

All I have to say is.. I actually did take a break from GW a while back, and logging in today, it is truly depressing.

I guess the next time I log in again it will be time to sell all my gold on ebay and uninstall the god damned thing. To hell with EULA! I want my money back for playing this junk of a game.

I doubt that many people want to buy superior monk runes for 'legit' reasons. Most likely they are angry that they missed out on the 105 build.

Personally i dont care. I decided to make a 105 build after getting bored with my trapper UW ranger. I saw prices on the trader were at 30K at the time i decided to make it.
So i thought to myself. "Ill just sit in Lions Arch spamming: WTB SUPERIOR MONKS RUNES 10K".
Surely enough after 3 hours i had everything i needed to. There sorted... All it took was time.

I'm not sure why monks would want to use Superior runes apart from the 105 build. since these runes lower's the hp, and for a monk thats bad, since they are usually number 1 target. Before, my monk only used minors, since i needed the extra hp.

As for 'hoarding' off items. Bah nothing you can do about that, nor Anet. IF people decide not to sell their wares. thats their decision.

It's getting a bit rediculous. Last week I bought a sup fire rune for 4k, and now its up to 24k. Even less popular things (like superior water rune) are up to 2.5k. The dye trader is out of dyes practically (last time I checked she was selling 4 dyes, with silver at 5k), globs are selling for 18k but trader buys for 8k, all superior runes have increased in price, even those usually untouched like superior soul reaping and superior inspiration.
Prices are straight up. 105 monk farmers have more money to spend, so they aren't as affected by the rising prices, so they keep buying at high prices, and fueling the fire.

Games that promote farming runs (UW runs, in the case of GW) as the only real means of achieving wealth have all ended up with a horrible game balance and the ecomony torn to shreds. If you need an example, look at D2. Mephisto/Baal/cow/whatever runs are the order of the day. People don't play the game, they grind through the same area over and over again, and what's worse, the internal game balance is so horrid that you need to farm for wealth to stay competitive in the late game, and to have any real chance of living up to the standards of the economy.

What are we trying do do? Save Guild Wars from going down a similar path. Farming is the most boring, repetitive form of gameplay I can imagine, and I will not engage in it, nor will I play a game where doing so is required to keep up with an out of control economy.

Fortunately the latter is not very likely to happen in GW, due to the very flat power curve of the game. But that still does not change the fact that UW runners have a detrimental impact on the economy.

ANet needs to put in quests or "jobs" as a way for you to gain gold at the same rate as farming. you will still have the money u would get from farming, but u will feel like ure actually doing something and it wont be as boring.

btw, this is what i do when the economy RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOs up, i make fun of it. look: http://www.andfreeporn.net/cnc/viewtopic.php?t=26 <<< its not porn I SWEAR. its my guild leader's domain.

One of the dumbest post ever. Apart from the last two lines which are just juvenile and don't need any comment, you're probably a mediocre farmer who's angry because he lost the inflation train and didn't have advantages from it.

Indeed, a PvE player doesn't need a superior rune, major do absolutely fine to beat the game, play in UW and so on. I often do 3 players smite runs and have no sup runes on my monk right now. I've done some solo uw farming but found it very boring, then I sold my sup monk runes with inexplicable pleasure. So, the inflation is only hurting people looking for a sup vigor/absorption for pve or people looking for dyes.
The only ones that complain about superior monk runes' prices are bad farmers who discovered the solo-invincible monk build a moment too late and now are screwed.

Too bad. Maybe you should come up with your own, original build to farm, like the first solo monks did, since Protective Bond will get nerfed by the time you'll have all the sup monk runes you need.

If the economy is truly governed by supply-and-demand, then the supply of a given product would increase when the price increases. This doesn't happen in GW. What we have is a demand-suppression mechanism. Its purpose is to promote diversity. When there's a large number of warriors, then prices of warrior runes go up to discourage people from playing warrior. Likewise, when people are buying lot of black dye then its price goes up so that not everyone is wearing black.

Indeed. Those who couldnt get it. Tough shit. Consider yourself a loser now.
BTW - if you REALLY have the skill, then you can do the solo build using majors. Its possible, but will just take a little bit longer. You'll need to use blessed signet, and probably have another person to nuke.
I did this orginally during the process of trying to get superior runes - couldn't kill anything mind you.

Remember the lvl 17 prot build uses 1 energy gain per hit. If you use majors then you'll get 0 gain, but you'll beable to negate that with blessed signet and bonetti's defence.
