I'm trying to run people for free, some places I can make and some I can't. What skills should I bring with me to make for a good runner? I'm a W/Mo.

Just have the best armor you can get and sprint! have tons of strength so u run longer, defense defense defense! dont equip stuff like rez or attack spells since a runner does not fight or stop to resurrect people.

Best to be a Warrior monk for the healing and protection spells....heal area! maybe one enchantment, i dunno. but warrior/monk should be your best bet. maybe carry shields up! possible a hex remover since u will have been slowed from mesmer like enemies.

Don't forget balanced stance. Knockdowns will get you killed faster as a runner than anything else will. Balance stance will prevent you from being knocked down (only use it when you come to a group(s) that you KNOW will use knockdowns on you)

Best Armor and these skills:

Balanced Stance
Sprint
Charge
Endure Pain
Purge Conditions
Healing Signet

and then the last two may be....

Heal Area
Mending (some folks don't like strippable enchantments - but i've seen runners use it to great success)
OR some others....

What about W/El? I've heard they make great runners too. Although I havn't had much success with it.

Thats what I was thinking. So far I've had success running around the desert with a strength of 12 and a Bulls Charge/Sprint combo to run with. With my strength that high, when the sprint wares off, the bulls charge is ready to go, and so on and so forth. I can't seem to get to a point where I can stop to use windborn speed or mistform. Also, there is Armor of Mist, which seems interesting.

my run build was this: charge, sprint, balanced stance, endure pain, purge conditiion, mending, and signet of healing and healing breeze. if your on a map with no knockdowns i bring watch yourself instead of balanced

w/mo is considered the best running class, w/r works too but then you cant heal as well. ive never seen a w/e run forge ...

i can usually keep running forever with charge/sprint, using one when the other wears off. unless you do the elona run with that dam crystal when you have to use both to go faster....

i heard if you abuse that one water elite that makes you invincible for a bit you can do good on the copperhamemr mines/citadel run cause all the imps slow you down anyway, but i never tried that...

biggest problem with w/r is you are basically dead if you get crippled.

Make a Warrior/Ranger. you get all the good warrior sprints, then you can use storm chaser and escape

actually, speaking from experiance, do NOT make a w/r. you do not NEED storm chaser and escape. stormchaser is 10 energy, and energy management is critical when running, because warriors have so little. you can keep going at 25% faster with charge/sprint if you set your tactics/strength up to around 11 each. (9 second charge and like 13 second sprint but dont quote me on that).

finally the most important reason you need w/mo is PURGE CONDITIONS. what exactly are you planning to do as a w/r when you hit a barbed trap? its something like GOOD BYE. end of run. you wont make it unless you really spam charge and sprint and the enemy is incredibly nice to you. but that is incredibly rare. oh and fyi escape is a pathetic run skill, the cool down is like 60 seconds and it lasts about 15 seconds. thats miserable not to mention the 75% chance to miss lets you miss like 2 damage from that guys wand.

running is NOT about speed, you only use speed to lose aggro from monsters. you do not use sprint to make the run go faster. (although ofcourse on some easy runs you do).

infact the only classes i have seen run forge have been w/mo and mo/w. although speaking a little more on your side i have seen someone run elona as a r/w. but he did NOT go heavy on stormchaser/dodge/escape he used stances like whirling def etc to avoid damage from things like hamstring asnd when he was clear he hit up a charge. but if you really want to try it, go ahead you can easily change back to w/mo.

i use whirling defense and lightning reflexes, to avoid attacks. the only thing i have to worry about is DoTs and spells.

and what do you do against a barbed trap?

i use whirling def. when i get hit by a barb trap so that i have time to get away and not take much dmg. its pretty effective, i almost never die on my runs

where do you run? i noticed that if you give monsters in the elona mission a chance they own you in about 10 seconds. and whirling doesnt affect elemental damage...
