a suggestion to try and fix the economy

im writing this on these forums in the hopes that someone from Anet will take it to heart. though its highly unlikely they will even care at all its better to try then just do nothing

first of all this will only work if Anet can restrain from nerfing every single decent loot spawn in the game long enough to try and encourage the teamwork the desire in the game instead of trying to shove it down everyones throat.

if you want to put an end to solo farming as it seems you are trying so very hard to do you need to consider a few things

1. why should a player join a group for items if they can do it themselves.

this is probably the number one issue next to not having to deal with stupid people. currently there is nothing that makes me desire to go find a farming group to kill whatever besides making it easier to kill whatever monster we are after, you MUST provide something to people that will make them want to go get a group of 8 to get stuff. heres my suggestion
currently loot drops are exactly the same or seemingly so in groups of any size the only difference is you have to divide it up. what i think should happen is if you are in a group of say 8 people the amount of loot you get on a run, i will use UW as an example, should be far greater than if only 1 person went in solo. yes that does happen. the amount of loot should increase greatly (greatly as in no less than double, 2.5 times drop rate increase would be great) for each player in the group.
the next thing that i think should happen is the amount of blue/purple/rare items and just good items in general like dye, ecto, storm bows, eternal stuff should drop far more often for each person in the group.
i hope that someone from Anet takes this to heart, the game is going downhill for me. i despise pvp with a passion, i will do it sometimes when im bored but its mostly because HoH is dominated by a very few who probably play this game almost religously. and pve has only seen nerf after nerf after nerf after nerf. if you so desperatly want people to cooperate and do things as a team to get the items they need you ABSOLUTLY MUST provide a reason to do so, not because it makes it easier to hunt but to get loot as well.

ANet made a mistake with the economy, no question. However, I don't think people understand the nature of their mistake. They started with plentiful drops and high prices, then after realizing that drops were TOO plentiful and prices were TOO high, took measures to bring them down (ie. rune trader and zone "nerfs"). Now we basically have two groups of people... well, three actually.

You have the people who played before the changes. They've already unlocked everything and made a ton of money from selling their loot. Second you have the people who played AFTER the changes. These people do not have the money that the players in the first group have. Therefore they complain about the "nerfs" as directed against them with no consequences against the older players. This is a classic example of economic "have's" and "have not's". The third group... well, they don't care either way. They're either playing with henchies or doing nothing but PvP. Maybe they're the smart ones.

This isn't about what is nerfed or what is not. It's about a basic inequity caused by play conditions established by ANet. Thankfully they learned their lesson from this and when they brought in the "faction system" they started with the rewards very LOW and then adjusted them upwards.

Adjusting drops back up isn't going to fix anything, and the reason ANet is trying to stop solo farming has more to do with bots and eBay than it does the in-game economy. They don't want people selling stuff for real money. I think we would be better off trying to work within the system we have rather than imploring ANet to impose what each person individually sees as "fair" or "correct".

personally, i think the reason the economy isnt as good as in some other MMOs is because of the variety of items, not the amount of same items. i mean GW has absolutely no trade skill, and therefore the only ways of aquiring items is by buying, quests, and monster drops. if they made a system that allowed players to harvest resources and craft their own items, i think the economy will become nearly a clone of most other MMOs.

however, i see that as a bad thing. GW was designd to be unique, meaning players will rely on skill, not play time/items.

I agree 100% with this. Anet has taken many steps to stop people from having gold, but they have yet to do something to balance out the level of gold per person. Until they do this, GW's economy will always be an aristocracy with the oldbies on the top and the newbies on the bottom.

If you want to play GW because of the economy you got the wrong game. Switch to EVE Online. It's based on econony. Their dev take a hands off approach; therefore, the player have complete control of the economy not the dev.

I just switched because I'm got tired of Areanet acting like commies.

Not matter how money u make it's just never enough right? I think most of you would suprisied by how much selling items can add up to. Also, it's funny that so many out there constantly ask for 1k like city street beggers, instead of going out and trying to make it on their own.

If more of you would quit hanging around ascolon like the noobs that you are and finally get towards the crystal desert, you would see what i'm talking about.

i have been playing for about a month and i guess that makes me a noob as far as Aracos79's system is concerned, i usualy keep max damage weapons and other decent items. i would say i get a fair amount. granted i have never broken 30 plat. though it annoys me to no end to see zone loot drops nerfed constantly without any means through pve to aquire money. while i dont have any suggestions on how to stop bots or people selling on ebay its really frustrating to be stuck getting only purple items on rare occasion that are precious or if im lucky highly salvagable. i havent seen a rare drop in two over weeks now, or even one i could sell for a decent price for that matter

Traders base buy and sell prices on stock. Ok thats fine, but the problem is all traders share the same stock. So how is that realistic? I think if each trader had their own stock things might become a bit more balanced.

Try this....

NPC that collects gold from people, When this NPC has collected enough gold and when favor of the gods is present, those who have contributed the most to the fund (such as over 10k maybe) they get to fight the mother of all battles with the biggest, baddest, meanest nasties.

I could imagine people paying such sums, they do after all pay 1k a shot in UW/FoW.

Here's another idea....

Charity through taxation to close the divide between the rich and the poor. The richest get taxed and the poorest get gifts.
Over time, the entire community would be financially levelled.

How about letting the richest spend their gold?

Would i say goodbye to every coin in my account if i could choose the EXACT weapon that i desired? YES. Here's a cheque for 880,000 gold!!

Would i continue farming afterwards? Nope....no reason to. Let people unlock things with GOLD...much easier.
You can after all, unlock skills with gold and skill points...why not unlock items with gold and skill points?

Dude I've already finished the game and I was on my 4th character . I've been playing since Beta. I wanted 100k per character. So, I was in it for the money, not the combat.

GW is the wrong game for someone who want to make tons of cash in a business like fashion. The game isn't EvE (Economy vs Environment). Selling stuff in the desert doesn't make enough money for me. The only way to make a lot of money in GW is running Drankor's Forge for people.

The statement that arenanet doesn't want people selling GW weapons and items for real money, doesn't jive with the changes they've made. What's been done has agravated the situation. If anything, the eBay market has really been opened up because no one can make enough gold in-game to get the items which are now extremely overpriced.

You're either buying gold off of eBay to buy good items or your selling your items on eBay because no one can afford them in-game... It's craziness.

I like Tactical's idea. Not just is it effective, it would serve as a very nice gold sink for the economy. Closest thing we have to that is "WTS MAX DMGG HAND AXE 15K!!!!!" I bought a few things like that, and it was crap. Anyone need a Axe Haft of Pruning?

that's a very good idea Tactical-Dillusions ... from the start, I wondered, why the merchants do not sell modded weapons when the monsters drop them ...

I think, that's the feature number one I am personaly waiting for. The side effect would be a huge gold sink )

ANet needs a bloody Luxury Tax - if you have this much gold in your account and you arent using it, they get to siphon some off.

No taxes. Areanet need to takes a hands off approach to the economy. Let the players have full control of it and it will work itself out. Capitalism works itself out. Whenever thegovernment get involved it just screws everything up.

want a gold sink? implement a lottery and make it so one has more chances to lose money then to win any BUT, there would be some sort of jackpot so people would risk it anyway (just like in real life...), quite gay idea i agree, but it would drain a lot of gold

No, it wouldnt help much. Rich people could buy more chances to win, poor people spend what little they have on a tiny hope - statistically the rich get richer and the poor lose what they have.

false, if the poor are poor AND dumb, that's not our problem

the rich won't get richer, they will only have the illusion they can since i specified that the chances of gaining money would be inferior than the chances of losing money, lotteries make a lot of money in real economies, why not in a video game?
