Ok, I was thinking about the game, and I think that it's possible that a.net could be having employees scam players. To balance the economy, they have created gold sinks to take out the influx of gold from ebay. I don't think it would be too far fetched to say that they could have a few employees scamming players to take gold from people who have a large amount of it stored up. Some people with a large amount of money, may not be interested in gold sinks. Instead, they may desire a weapon. Well, scamming this player, while harsh, would take money from him, and remove it from circulation. Just some thoughts.

Did I read this right? You think that ANet is having their -employees- scam people?
I can't imagine it. Given their vehement opposition to scammers, I highly doubt they'd resort to those methods to remove gold from the economy. Heck...all they -really- have to do is literally take the gold away. They DO have access to everyone's characters.

Want to hear something ironic?
Alright, here we go...
One day, after a nice time of farming, i notice that my storage is full... that day i suggested that my storage should have more space. Simple enough.
Next day, right after asking that, my storage was empty... all my items were gone... (More space)...

The only think I could really think of to reduce he amount of gold in the economy and give everyone a chance is probably a system which follows how we pay our income tax. Where merchants would charge players by their total gold. The more you have the more expensive the stuff are and the less you have the less expensive they are. Though that would probably another way to exploit poor people by having them buy the stuff cheap then sell to the rich guys. However that would also be their source of income... Hmm...
