I was wondering if those who had tried secondary class switching. Specifically whether you keep skills if yo switch back and forth or if that is even allowed.

if this is posted somewhere or i missed something just delete it I tried searching and came up blank.

Ascension wasn't available in any of the Beta weekends, so the only people who will have done it are Alpha testers that can't comment.
I can, however, answer your other question: when a character unlocks a skill, that skill will always be available to them so long as they exist. So if you take Monk subclass and learn all its skills, then take a Warrior subclass and decide that it is awful, you can switch back over to Monk, and those skills that you had unlocked previously will still be there.

But while you've switched to the Warrior subclass, the skills from the Monk subclass you've abandoned will not be available to you, IIRC.

Do you get back the skill points you'd spent on the Monk skills in this case?

I have a question, where do you switch secondary classes after the tutorial?

Once youve unlocked a skill it is your to use when ever you want. What spooky meant is that you can switch your skills back, you dont have switch back to a monk secondary.

Edit: On second thought, im not to confident in what i said, as the skills you can pick from are from you primary and secondary. They might put them up with the rez sig and such though.

Does anyone know for shure?

Your wording is confusing, I got the impression that you could use Strength of Honour as a War/Ele. Imagine that, ugh :P overpowered!

Anet *did* say that a character will have the oppertunity to get all of the skills for all classes. like i said in my edit im not as confident as when i first posted though.

i was one of the ones posting that

you can wind up with every skill in the game unlocked and available for you

The bottom line is that you could have a primary character who has experimented with all five available secondary professions. That character will likely have good stock of skills in each of those lines. In fact, that character could have every skill in each of the five available secondaries. The character then, in ways not yet to be revealed, will be able to shift to a different secondary and take advantage of a long history of roleplaying character development.

getting all those skill points are pretty rough through out the BWE... until the 5000 exp quest are up... but even that, it is not exactly a fast ride @_@

There are still rewards for playing long PvE... instead of levels, u get skill points.

Now I just wonder... what are the cost for this... change sub-class thing.

Let me try and explain this with less confusion, because there's two different aspects to unlocking skills:

When a character learns a skill, that skill becomes permanently unlocked for your account, so that any PvP character you create will automatically have the option to use it. This is the 'global' aspect of skill unlocking. Think of it as sticking things into a bank that you can draw out later for use. However, as with any character, you can only use the skills dictated by that character's two professions.

Now, for individual character learning - Yes, you can learn all of the skills in game, and they will be stored on that character - but the ones that are currently available to you are based on your current Primary and Secondary subclasses. When you switch your subclass, all of the skills you had for it previously will come back. You're not 'losing' skills this way, it is instead that the ones in professions you don't currently have are not displayed. This way, we don't have prism-esque characters running around with skills from all six professions at once.

ONce you unlock a skill it will always be there even if you delete the char.
Question though is whether if you change your subclass to something will you gain all skills of that subclass that you had unlocked previously, even with another char? I think so... but its always best for someone whos tested it to say yes.

Ok sounds good. I was just making sure if I wanted to use my hammer war for PvP if I could switch from my war/mo knockdown and war/me anti caster build . But will refund points be a problem?

Do you know if there is/will be the possiblity to store character "builds" ?
Switching professions etc and having to rearrange would be quite the pain!
Also, how many times can we switch secondary profession? Just once after ascension or can we switch as many times as we want, but not as often as we want? For example, is there some enforced time lapse between profession changes?.

Does switching secondary involve the wondering monk?

refunds points come every 250 exp or about 14 pvp kills. storing character builds have been suggested, but no comments back from anet.

You will have the ability to change your secondary profession multiple times- as many times as you want to. The process that you have to go through in order to change your secondary profession hasn't been revealed yet, so I can't comment on that- however, you could change between Mo/W and Mo/Me 50 times if you felt like it.

Your RP character will only have access to the skills that you've acquired on that character, so if you unlock mesmer skills with one character and then change your secondary to a mesmer on a different character, you will not have access to those mesmer skills that you unlocked- you'll have to get them on your second character as well. Unlocking only applies for PvP characters. However, if you have a PvP character that is a mesmer, and you unlock new mesmer skills with one of your RP characters, your PvP character will have access to those skills.

When you change secondary professions, skill points are not refunded- your character still has those skills. Fortunately, there have been lots and lots of skill quests added post-searing, so you won't have to spend nearly so many skill points on getting the skills that you want.

Can a character do a skill quest of a class he currently does not have - and complete it, blocking off those 'free skills' permanently?

Or are quests with skill rewards class specific, so that if you switch secondaries you'll simply have a bunch of quests to go back and do?

Peace,

I feel stupid.

I've been following this for over a year now, and can't remember what Ascension is.
