Guild Wars has detected a hardware failure

I only get this message very rarely (maybe 1 in 10 logins or less). If I close out and reopen Guild Wars, I do not get this message. During the last beta event, I was logged in for extended periods of time with no problems at all, so I'm just wondering if this could be a false detection?

I would rather not think my computer has hardware issues, especially since I can run HL2 for hours flawlessly.

And, like I said, if I just run the game again, it doesn't detect a failure.

Well I searched the GuildWars support site, and found no information on it. Since most of us here may not know what the hardware failure error is supposed to detect, maybe you could give us your computer specs and possibly find something from that. Video/sound. Its a good start.

just something to throw in how about your drivers are they fully updated?

Actually, I rolled back my video drivers to 4.12 as I installed 5.4 and 5.3 after a fresh format and install of winXP just to find out I was getting about 40 fps in CSS stress test as opposed to my usual 93. I rolled back to 4.12 and voila! I'm afraid to upgrade to 5.4 again, as it seems there's an issue with anything above 5.2 for me (I have no clue why!).

p4 3.0E
Asus p4p800-SE mobo
1 gig Dual Channel ram (mushkin) 2.5-3-3-7 I thnk
Radeon 9800 Pro 128
Soundblaster Audigy 2 (is it me or does Creative have driver issues?)

I'm not oveclocked and my mobo reads the CPU temp at around 44C.

Like I said though, I played for extended periods of time with no problems at all. I play HL2 DM for hours and never have issues (much more demanding game). Also, it only happens every once in a while, so right after I get that message, it doesn't happen if I open Guild Wars again.

If I recall, it gave me that message while using 5.4 drivers as well.

Maybe try driverheaven's Omega drivers?

Currently using omega. I tested omega 5.2 and had issues with Valve and steam games, etc.

I know you will pretty much have to wait until the game is available on the 27th, if you have a pre-order kit. I think your Asus motherboard cd should have a temperature probe program that will check CPU and GPU temp with a keystroke. You can try and see if your video card is over heating. Or your mushkin memory timings may have changed. Without the information on your memory theres no way for me to tell if your being too agressive with it. Also, don't over estimate that it could not be your power supply, it certainly could. What power supply do you have?

Hmmm... It seems if it was power supply you'd be receiving the message every time (but can't rule it out, just unlikely). Your processor, might be glitching... but I'd prefer not to go that route as it is very very unlikely as is overheating at 44 degrees. Motherboard is ASUS... nice . I'm going to have to assume it's your memory on this one. Or a hardware failure on your sound drivers. Sound drivers is easy enough, find different ones... install them (or roll them back). Do this with a couple different sets.. if it works, great, if it doesn't well you won't know if it's the sound card till others have the same problem. Memory timing would be really easy to find out. Go into your BIOS and changed the settings to OPTIMAL, or manually up the timings to 3 flat (3-3-3-7).

I upgraded my PSU from a crappy iCute thing to a 500W quality PSU (forgot name but it's great).

As for memory, I haven't changed any timings manually, so I would figure they are set to default mobo speeds. My first set had many errors so I RMAd it and got another set (what are the chances of 2 bad sets in a row?). Also, I never have random reboots or program crashes.

My mobo sensors could be off by +-10C but even so... 55C isn't TOO high. My bios reads 44 under stress and the asus probe (software) reads about 39 CPU, which is probably wrong.

I can't determine the video card temperature (don't know which program to use), but I know the fan is working and there is plenty of air flow in my case.

Sound drivers... oh too much to say about those. I have had nothing but trouble with creative drivers for my audigy 2. Great card, terrible drivers. The first time I installed them, the control center would not work at all, and I had to reinstall. An update for the drivers came with my CD and that seemed to corrupt the whole creative volume control center as it would not open (says no hardware detected or something like that) even though I could still hear sound.

Creative doesn't seem to have full drivers on their website, just updates (minus the beta). Even today, I still have issues with the EQ resetting randomly, and just general trouble in the control center. I don't have anything to roll back to though, lol.

I forgot the program that detects RAM timings and such. Any ideas?

Well you can use this program to read the SPD of the memory stick/s you have in there now.

You can then check out your Bios to see what you currently have it set to.

A good 'all around' monitor tools is MotherBoard Monitor. Your mobo appears to be listed as a supported one. If it is your soundcard and drivers not sure I can help you there aside from uninstalling all sound drivers and then reinstalling from the disk and then do all the updates.

If you have had weird problems in the past though... I am leaning towards the memory more.

RAM speeds are 2.5-3, which is what my RAM is rated at. Frequency is 400 and they are running dual channel I think.

Bought a new MOBO since my ram problem before, as well as my RMAd ram, so I think it's fine.

Gonna see if MBM works and if I can find out my video card temp.

Also, I built my brother a Asus A8N Deluxe SLI board recently. The Asus disk has a tool on it to monitor CPU and GPU temp. So, you may want to check Asus for an updated 'tool' for your motherboard. But MBM should work fine, I've used it before on other systems. Few times it really helped find that the cooling mechanism for the CPU on the boards I tested was not working up to par. On machines I did not build (of course)

I can't find out the GPU temp from the bios or mobo software.

I guess I'll just live with it, doesn't seem to be a real problem.
