The bot problem

I find it intresting that alot of people bash on people that go out and mass kill stuff for loot. I for one, like to farm becuase its fun and addicting sometimes and gets me money in the process. But the recent inflood of bots are really starting to peeve me off, as it should. Becuase I go out and legitimately farm(you know, point click, point click, actually play the game), not activate a bot and go to sleep. These guys get away with doing this and ruin farming spots every week. Anyone else think this is becoming a problem?

*looks at the never ending stream of jerky-trailed characters heading towards a current popular krytan farming spot*

It seemed to me that bot are quite nicely taken care of, that s not the case for most games

That's also what happen when u don't keep ur secret farming spot for urself

Most ppl r posting things like "WAAAAW I FOUND BUGGED CHEST" etc
Hard to do a thing against stupid ppl ^^

That will always be like that in all online games i think
Hopefully, there s no "tradehack" or crap of some sort except bots atm..
That kinda thing is worse than botting

I'm not quite getting your complaint... how do you know its a bot if the game starts with only your group...? and furthermore... I pretty much run the exact same route everytime I farm, just because well, its the quickest and easiest way to kill the monsters I want to kill

Ok, the complaint is that people use programs called bots, to run thier character automaticly and farm, this is retarded and ruins the economy for the people that legitimately play the game. What i meant on taking the same route is that some programs (know some knowlege of programing) can be programed to do point to point(a to b) mapping. Its funny that you can stand in a district and watch a player reapear then suddenly jerk to the same "spots" that he or she did before ( i know it may seem lame that i took the time to observe this but humor me). thats how i tell they are bots. some are more evident than others as some peoples characters jerk back and forth trying to get to a point. Thats what i meant same route, "exact pinpointed steps".

Edit: please tell me if i explained that correctly

Ah.. -Shrugs- Yea, I see your point, but a lot of the economy is already shot when a clean fellblade with a good req is 2k, and its no better than a shortsword..

yeah, but i can see why they may make a different shortsword(or another low end looking weapon) be about the same as a fellblade, so you dont get bored with the scenery seeing 50 people running around with the same weapon :P

You mean that the fiery sword is not the only sword in game?

So but be sure. Those Places are now "modified", so they wont drop any "gold" items more.

Of course, maybe they know other Places, but the best 2 for lvl20s are "clsoed".

Its every good gamer problem to mind about bots, hacking, scamming and any other forms of taking advantage of ppl, game desing or bugs. Its usually easy to detect a bot, as our friend said, cos u can watch em move from point to point, and if u take the time to wait in a town that has 3 or 4 districts only (yeah i've done it too) u can see the same char, enter time after time and reapeat the same routine inside town. They are even adding now some random chat words to the bots so they can avoid being detected so easily.
When im really suspicious i report, char name, place, day and a screenshot of the probable bot, and Anet checks the log on that player to search for botting patterns.

Atm its the best we can do.

Neither is playing the game, but we do it anyway. Tackling the bot problem may not be our job (and is out of our hands anyway), but people can worry about it as much as they please.

Bots only serve one purpose: earning money, for whatever purposes. The problem with that is that if bots earn money 24/7 in a way that is significantly more efficient than how most people play the game, anyone that is NOT using a bot will soon be left behind in the economy. Which in turn makes people give up on trying to earn gold themselves, instead buying it on eBay or something. Which is the very thing that fuels the botters, and things spiral down from there.

I think the only ones that don't need to worry their pretty little heads about bots are the botters themselves. So explain your side, please? I'm interested to learn how you can casually shrug them away.

Your right silmor, and we should be worrying about it. After all its magnificently widening the gap between the poor people/the people that are legitimately farming from the people that are cheating to do it. Yes, thats right, bots are cheats. And anyone that doesn't beleive me, pull up that nice list of guidelines that you say you agree to when you install the game. Botters should be banned for violating those guidelines, plain and simple.

Excactly! Its a 'fact' that it kills the game economy. People can argue all they want against this, but it still remains a proven fact.

I'll just throw this out there...

I think that Shandoo was just observing that there are a lot of complaints about bots, but Anet is attempting to do all they can to stop it and resume the fair play, so more complaining and more threads about botting will not help.

I could be off-track but that is how I read his post.
