Jump!

I had an idea for jumping after this trapper in an Alliance battle laid a bunch of traps in front of him and just taunted me to walk right into them.

I thought to myself, it would be really useful if I could just jump through those obviously laid traps and hit the guy.

So how about it?

I thought up a system to implement this:

You get a jump bar, or a stamina bar. Everytime you jump, you lose 30% stamina. How the stamina bar affects you is this: It reduces your speed by half the amount lost, ie the most you can lose it 45% speed if you keep jumping (that is it gets to 10% and you can't jump anymore).

There are also armor and equipement that increase stamina, like say "Boots of jumping".

Also, there is a 1 second delay after each jump.

Jump distance isn't very long, just enough to avoid a trap. So I guess the maximum jump distance you can jump is trap + a bit.

Also, you will get a lot of health damage if you jump from a higher ledge to a lower ledge. (will prevent exploiters from avoiding large groups).

I feel this system will open GW to new strategies and open the game a little bit more.

Also, a good trapper will still be able to lay traps, just not so obvious.

err i dunno i think a health and energy (mana) bar is still hard to keep up with along with what is goin on with ur character. and if you had an energy(runnin) bar wouldnt running affect it too, so you couldnt run all the time on your character and stuff, and running skills would take up energy(runnin) instead of energy(mana).

dunno itd be confusing like what i just tried to post i cant even understand what i just posted

Jumping in full W armor would be impossible. Plus it allows you to become stuck in areas, which would be irritating for ANet and us.

Either way, if you jump over a trap it will still trigger. Ever notice that if you're on a bridge over traps, they will still effect you? The z axis in GW is pretty horrible, and I doubt that the developers want to entirely revamp the engine for something as not-essential as this.

They would have to go back through both games and change the coding of various areas and collision markers, as people would jump in every possible crook and cranny and file about 10239012930921321312 support tickets for being stuck.

Why does everyone always want to jump. Don't be a monkey and just respond to the taunts. Refuse to acknowledge the taunts and don't run over the traps.....sheesh.

While I do like to jump around in games such as WoW, WoW was designed for it. GW is not. Notice how you can't fall off any edges or anything? Jumping would require some major reworking of explorable areas...

/cool, but doesn't fit in GW. not signed.

I Think they should add this, but not allow you to go over traps or even ledges/terrain. Just make it so you can leap over people to avoid some body blocking, or small obstacles, or just for fun. Different proffessions could jump different heights with different animations, and it could just cost you like 5 energy to jump.
Here are some ideas of jumps heights for what I'm talking about:
Assassin = Highest, can go over people easily, maybe even 2 people lined up.
Ranger = Close to Assassin, can easily jump over a single person.
Monk = Can barely jump over a single person.
Ritualist = Same as monk.
Necromancer = Can jump over some small obstacles, like a log. But not people.
Elementalist = Same as Necromancer.
Mesmer = Can't go very high, just for fun.
Warrior = Can barely leave the ground.

Also, the animations should have a short delay after and before the jump, preveting you from running immediately.
To prevent some exploiting that might (somehow) occur, make us jump an automatic height/distance. We could jump straight up, but only if you're standing still.
And if this were added, Assassins had better get a flipping animation

Actually, I think a Warrior would be able to run pretty fast and leap pretty far.

I liked it in WoW , much liked it.

But this would kill bodyblocking eh?

It wouldn't "kill" body-blocking, it'd just allow a few of the classes to get past it. The ones you're really trying to body-block (Warriors) would still be trapped.

/signed to add jumping but with no restrictions.

This game is missing a z-axis which should have been there from the start.

one of the anet devs said they will add jump in later chapters, hopefully in chapter 3. They said they regret not putting jump into the game.

the engine cannot support the physics of you jumping above a level...anyways...the traps would still go off.

Trap a bridge they pop for foes above and below. There's no real huge desire for me to jump and the huge amount of effort required to make this so, not to mention its impact on gameplay isnt worth screwing around for.

If we could jump then the enemies would have to be able to jump as well. Which would be pretty annoying.

Which, according to Izzy in the last WoC, isn't something they can just up and fix. It's a deep rooted problem with the engine. They could easily spend their time fixing/adding things that add so much more to the game.
