Ok, sorry for being "rude", but if the admins were willing to start up a site like this (which I really like by the way), they are also taking on the responsibility of keeping it up to par.
I have had more problems with the auction area in this site than I have had anywhere on the internet. I'll keep coming here since, like I said, I do like it, but not nearly as much as I would if I could get more than 50% of the pages to load correctly.

If we are willing to start up a site... then we are somehow "obligated" to spend thousands of dollars to upkeep it? Not really the way it works for any business, fansite, or forum. I love you guys, anyone who talks with me in emails, PM's, IRC, in game, forums or anywhere else knows that this site is my passion and I dedicate nearly a full-time schedule to keeping content coming, moderating, gathering sponsors for contests, dealing with server issues and more. But quite frankly the only "responsibility" I feel is to enjoy doing this and to contribute my time to the community.
We are working on these issues, we are more than aware of this. But our server admin has a job and no he can't throw himself at this 10 hours a day. I speak with him daily and we are all working on getting these issues resolved.

Without being rude... let's think this over for a minute....
Nope, sorry... This entire THREAD is rude. Of course Inde and the staff are working to keep this site up and running, that's a given. I am 100% there is not one thing you can tell Inde that they don't already know. SO, what I suggest you do is sit quiet and not complain, kinda like the 85,000 other members who don't complain.

Mhhh maybe cause that requires some efforts while complaining is free?
Seriously, I am just happy with the fact that this site exists... Noone is paid to run it, they just do it for passion and for the community. Be thankful that there IS a Guru. You have no idea of the sacrifices that Inde and the other guys do to keep it up.

The Admins could set up a donation program (Paypal).
You never know how much you would make in support of guildwarsguru and it is relativley easy to do

total cow manure. GWG creators don't owe you (or me) anything. They could also speed the site up a great deal buy dumping any user they like and closing account creation, for example. i can't even begin to explain how wrong this single sentence can be. Define "site like this", "up to par", and discuss what logic exists between the two proposition.

Pay them $1 for each auction, things will look up fast. Running a server costs money, not just just enormous amounts of time. BTW, anyone knows how to see GWG's ads in Firefox. Ad-blocking is too zealous, I can't even see the sponsored links (had to check it in IE). Well, I could use IE ... |

Cheers to the GWG admins!
Keep up the good work. When I browse the site, I only have problems with pages 1-2% of the time, at the absolute max. I think that is well within reasonable limits. Sure, the search function doesn't work most of the time, but it is not that hard to find stuff anyway (hint: use your brain's search function - logic).
I am so grateful that you all put in so much time and effort so that I have something to do while at work. I like the layout and design of the site. It is user friendly and logically arranged. Seriously, very top notch work.
@ The GWG admins
Don't let jerks mess up your work. It is proven that compaints are much more likely than compliments. Not because there are more complaints but because when we are happy we are content, and when we are content we do nothing. When we are unhappy we have dissonace that we feel we need to resolve, so we complain. So again, good work!
@ AlbinoChocobo
IE seriously?!? :gasp:

EDIT:
When did we all start feeling that everyone owes us something? It really drives me crazy. Your parents owe you NOTHING, your employer owes you NOTHING, your goverment owes you NOTHING, your site administrators owe you NOTHING...get the picture. You are the only person that owes you anything. Why do we act as if we are victims? Why do we not take responsibility for ourselves? Why do we blame others for our problems?
Those kinds of ideals/morals really burn me up. Take responsibility for yourself and quit whining.
Sorry for the rant and btw it was directed mostly toward husker because at least Sirus gave a potential solution istead of just complaining.

If you are using the Adblocker extension, you can whitelist a site by right-clicking on the "Adblocker" text in the bottom right of your window. If that doesn't work, bring up the Adblocker options menu. It is in there somewhere. I'm not currently at my own computer, so I can't look it up right now.
If you aren't running the Adblocker extension, check the Firefox options menu (Tools > Options > Content) to see if you have Images restricted.
Hope this helps.

If you direct me to the nearest paypal donation page I would gladly help out, but since there is none, I assume the admins have taken it upon themselves to keep the site running smoothly by themselves.
I am a moderator of another forums site that has far less people registered and we have a donation icon on the front page. So far we have been able to keep people happy and in turn have had enough donated to be able to keep the site running w/out the aid of "out of pocket" money.
I would be willing to bet that if something like that was here, you would all be amazed at how much you could bring into the site and help with server prices, etc......
I won't get into the other arguments since nothing positive can come out of that. I have my opinions and you have yours, it's just that mine is different, so all you can do is bash me for speaking my mind.

An undisclosed company who I operate as an analyst for is in the process of SCRAPPING no less than 7 blade servers. The person in charge of this process is inquiring currently about making these available for resale. If this is something that we as a community might be interested in, and the cost is reasonable, I might find out if they are available to staff, and donate one to the community (assuming REASONABLE cost. If Inde or one of the folks on the technical end can contact me if you're interested.
I was told they are some kind of replicant server structure (I think, and I have no idea what that means). I'm not an expert, nor will pretend to be; but if it is something we can use to better the community I'd be more than happy to help. Additionally, I'd be more than happy to donate to a reasonable sum of money to site folks here and I think alot of other folks would as well, not as a membership fee, but as a way of supporting the community. A paypal donation link or such would be a great idea.
And by the way, I want to send on my warmest thanks to the staff. You guys do a great, and often thankless job. So, cheers and good show.

jeez i think after about post #2 this went downhill for no good reason
the guy posts some complaints about a site that obviously has its problems (and NO I'M NOT SAYING THE ADMINS HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS OR IMPLYING THAT THE ADMINS MUST BE ALERTED TO THE EXISTENCE OF THESE PROBLEMS) and ppl immediately jump on him and claim he is dissing their sacred site and personally attacking the admins. when somebody starts by saying "Without being rude," it's Not Too Difficult to figure out that they mean no offense to anybody, and that they know it is a touchy topic and are in fact Making a Point not to offend anyone.
I don't believe the admins have any Obligation to make the site anything they don't want it to be, but y would u jump on somebody for stating that they wished the site operated as it was designed to, such as loading pages, and allowing ppl to search thru it
honestly, give the guy a break.
and btw, who on earth sits there grinning and says "good old guru" when they can't use the search feature? it is an AMAZING site but there is absolutely nothing wrong with pointing out some flaws
EDIT: people seem to have missed that i was backing up poster #1 (ie the one who said "without being rude" not "sorry for being rude") and i wanted to clear that up

From my point of view, reporting problems and just asking for a new server are 2 totally different things. If there's a problem with the database, or some other features, then every report is more than welcome. If it's only a 'suggestion' to buy a faster server then it's kinda pointless... Does the community think that the admins are not aware of the occasional slowness? Or the fact that Search isn't up? And apart from that, there are many ways of asking for things.
You come up with something like: is there anything to do to make this site work faster and better? Then you probably will get nice answers back
If you come up with such: this site sucks, why don't you buy a new server? You made Guru, so you must spend thousands of bucks on it because i say so then it's likely you'll get some not so nice answers back.

blakecraw,
I appreciate your comments, but as I have stressed so many times before, I am aware of the problems and honestly just scrolling through the site feedback forum you will see more than enough threads on this with my responses. And I think you are misunderstand as I was not referring to the original poster at all with my comments. We are referring to post #3.
It's ironic that the first post and post #3 used nearly the same terminology with the "rude" comment. But as far as the "Without being rude" statement or the following "Ok, sorry for being "rude","... doesn't fly. I repeatedly see entire flame posts that start with "without being rude, you are an idiot", "without meaning any offense, get a life". When people start a sentence with that statement they know right from the start that it will indeed be taken rudely, offensively, etc. and it's a scapegoat. A way to accept no responsibility or consequences for their next action. Doesn't work in real life and doesn't work on the forums.

And this is why Inde is admin, and others aren't.
Said it so much better then I ever could. Style bonus +2.

i just want to say that i run a site myself i know how much it costs to maintain a server and i don't see why the admins and people that run this site should have to fork out a huge sum of money when they need not. this site is here as a helping hand an informative place for us GW fans to come and browse. If you can't deal with the fact that this site will lag sometimes as so many people are on it... don't use it! this site is by far the best GW fan site i've used... i just want to say to the admins and everyone here at GWG keep up the good work
