question about Assasin/rt's in normal GW

ok i havent gotten the expansion yet, i had quit for like a few months before it came out. but now im seeing assassins and stuff in normal GW storyline, once you buy Factions are you allowed to bring your characters back to normal GW?

sorry if this is a noob question but i missed everythin about factions while i was gone.
