Some advice for a potential player

Hello everyone.

I was just after some advice and as far as i can tell this is the best place around to ask!

Having never played Guild Wars im going to buy it as it seems pretty cool, but i have a few questions....

1)Should i start with the original game rather than Factions. If i do go with the original will there still be a lot of people to play with or has everyone moved on to Factions games.

2)Is it going to take me years to be able to play in PvsP games without being whooped or are there noob-ish servers to play in???

3)Is my 2600+, 1000mb ddr ram, ATI 9700PRO, good enough to enjoy the game??

1) I don't really think it would matter which you start with. My friend started with factions and is having a blast.
2) Nah, it won't take long at all to get into PVP. There are arenas in the first towns for lvls from like 1-15 or so.
3) That's enough to run it great. You could surely run the game on high quality if with those stats if I can.

I think Factions is probably a better starting point as there seems to be more focus on learning strategies and fighting right from the get-go. Prophecies (the original Guild Wars) sort of drops you into a pretty meadow and lets you wander aimlessly and figure things out on your own.

You also level up a lot quicker in Factions, which allows you to avoid getting your butt kicked everytime you enter a new area. Maybe pick up the first Guild Wars if you have played Factions and like it, then add its retail key to your account to open up two extra slots. They are both different "continents" on the same planet, so you can travel back and forth once you've reached a high enough level.

Focus on PvE (the storyline mode) for the first month or two, then once you got the hang of it start visiting arenas as they appear, by talking to arena guards in towns. Usually the towns have a level cap (as in the first capital city will only let levels 1-10 fight, etc) but they're still good practice.

The storylines are not dependent on each other so it won't be like you're out of the loop at all either.

Steps to follow when starting:
-Do all the quests and training you can (by talking to people with an exclamation over their head, in and out of towns)
-Join a guild (like clans, they help you out, will answer questions, and eventually you may do full guild battles with them)
-Read up on "salvaging," identifying, and the collecting and selling of items dropped by enemies. Browsing the Price Check forum here and generally being aware of what's worth keeping and what's not will help your pocketbook and your item space.

1) You will have fun with either, Both the original and factions are really fun But i'd say in the long run more people would be playing factions, and the starting area is better for training.

2) I'm not a PvPer, so i cant really help.

3) Yep, Those should be fine.

and be sure to listen to the tips forsythe gave, Join a guild beacuse guilds can really help out sometimes, expecially with any questions you have, a lot of time if you just go into town and ask something people don't reply or if they do, you might not see it beacuse of how much people chat - so guildies are really helpful.
