Ok so i last played GW:P 9 months ago, and i really enjoyed the PvE and the PvP for a short time. Now i have come back to play factions, so thought i'd try a new char (Rit/Mo) in the new campaign, i WAS really enjoying it until the second mission, my group of 6 level 11 guys completed it and got sent to the second continent, a market place. It seems all the mobs here are level 20, as are my henchies, the problem being that i die in a couple of hits to the assasins and mobs in this new area, my henchies do okay and normally kill the bad guys and rez me. My battles tend to go like this, i summon my 3 spirits, and then shoot a mob so my henchies engage, the other 2 mobs of the group then run up to me and promptly one or two shot kill me, and i sit around for 3 mins for my henchies to wipe the floor with them and rez me.

I feel like IM the henchman, and my real hencies are having to put up with this lvl 12 n00b on their team.

I then decided to group with real players to try that, so 8 of us, ranged lvl 11-13 all got together, we wiped on the first 3 lvl 20 mobs who pretty much ran around one shotting us.

So am i being really stupid here, and missing an area to level up some? Or is it really this frustrating for players who choose to start anew in the factions campaign? I cant remember this ever happening in the orginal GW.

Its a real shame, as up until i came to this market place area i was VERY impressed, but now im struggling to log in knowning that i may actually have to grind up some levels, which is the reason this is the only online game i play, i hate grinding levels!

Any advice, or any area's im missing? i've explored all the starting island, done all the quests i've found there, i could go back there and grind up 9 levels, but i'd rather eat rusty nails!

Thanks!

There are LOADS of missions with like 4k XP BEFORE the Market place

Basically, you need to level LOADS more... also you probably need to get MUCH better armour, and loads more skills.

so, go back and explore and level up, you i've found two 4k XP missions that ive not done yet.. just trying to get to LIONS ARCH now, but I think I gotta be higher level.

They set the game up where 75-80% of the game is lvl 20 conent where lvl 20 content started at Krytia/Wylds in C1.

I assume they expect you do to all the missions and side stuff before getting there (I still waiting on my CE..) as snow said.

its about impossible to do marketplace unless you are lvl 20 with good armor and weapon. This is why you have to do the quest and mission on the first island ..if you do them all you should be close to lvl 20 and after taht you can take marketplace

Aye i've looked all over for more quests, managed to get to level 13, but the only quest left on the starting island is the one to resque some boy, that seems to be bugged as you get 30+ mobs attacking you at once :s and after you wipe and kill them, he wont talk to you

Least im not the only one, the market place is full of people my level and lower wondering what they are meant to do next.

I remember doing a few 4k missions before i came here, one of them being the missing treasure quest, and a few others, but im still 7 levels short of being able to go to the other island.

I've done every mission i can find i've spent nealy 2 hours running aorund everywhere looking for every mission i can find, i know the game is set up for lvl 20's i played the first game, but me and a few friends who have come over from another game are a little stumped on where to get more quests, we have 20% Explore on Cantha, which means we've been all over the starting island. Any pointers as to where some quests for level 13's might be? Maybe im missing a mission chain or something? i did the guys garden mission, and then the one that took me to the main island.

I took me a while to figure this out, but there's a trick. Once you get to the market place, to follow the primary quest you have to go to the bazaar right? Well the thing about the bazaar is that the are many different way to get to where you need to go. For the primary quests it is never the most direct route. There are ways to go where the largest group you will face is 3 assassins, which a group of 8 15's should be able to handle. Basicaly the rule is if there are a whole bunch of enemies in front of you that would wipe you out in a heartbeat, you aren't taking the right path. If you head north from the market place you can also get to Kainang Center without hardly any fighting. There you can get max armor. That said, getting to the first mission through the undercity is really freaking hard.

Aye finally managed to get there, although im still trying to level up a lot, its a real pain, just hit 16 now by grinding and dying a lot, not much fun, but at least im almost there, and dont get one shotted all the time. Still think they needed another few missions to fill the gap between the starter island and the mainland though. The docks in cantha are packed of players coming back from the mainland at level 11 and asking where the other missions are for them to help level up.

I've found it a bit tough too, but now I've gone back to the island and decided to level up some more. Good thing too, because I missed the second 15 attributes quest the first time through.

I'm getting my A/R through the ENTIRE shing jea island before I take him off. I'm not even going to do any of the harbor quests yet, i'm still doing the "nooby" quests. I may stop eventually and just move on, but I want every drop of XP that I can get. Period.

There's a second 15 attributes quest? Where The only one i did was the one after the mission where you kill minister Cho, then go back in to find the treasure, which turns out to be the wife?

Where is the other?

The second one is found in Seitung Harbor at the Shrine on Zunraa. I'm not sure if you have to finish Zen Daijun beforehand to get it.

Well finally hit level 18 so i can complete mainland quests. Although im having a bit more fun, i think it was poorly designed for us new players.

All my time on the new player island i felt like i was being rushed to the mainland, so much most of us new players get there at level 11-15 ish, with really poor armour. Thats when we find we need to get 1.5k Armour, and level up a lot to carry on with the missions.

Also everything is SO expensive, i want to buy the 60 armour for my ritualist, but even things like bolts of cloth are costing 350G for 10 on the materials vendor, and i dont seem to have much luck farming it. I asked in the trade chat to buy the 200 cloth needed, and got quotes of rediculous high prices, 20,000 gold +!! Bear in mind im a new char, and have never had more than 2k in my char at the same time!

So now im on mainland, i feel the game as rushed me here too quickly, i have poor armour, i cant afford to buy a thing, i cannot do the missions or quests here efficiently with my low level and 35 armour.

After playing for 4 days i really get the impression that this was aimed at existing players, and should have been an expansion, not stand alone, players who have many level 20 chars already, and can afford to pay 20k for some bolts of cloth will probably love the game, but im stuck in catch 22 right now, i cant quest more until i get a LOT LOT more money and armour, but need to quest and level to get that.

It started off incredibly well on Shing Jea island, the quests were awesome, but they simply didnt seem to think it a problem of dumping brand new players off on the mainland with 15 or 30 armour, a few hundred gold to our names a problem.

If you do all the quests 1st nd 2nd for second trainers you get a boat load of XP, I'm lvl 16 (nearly 17) and havnt done the second missions yet, no grinding involved either in that number.

I was starting to get kinda worried about the material prices. For you new guys, the Materials Trader is set up with a Supply and Demand kind of scale. When more players buy materials than those selling materials, the price goes up. Sadly, there's a lot of players that just buy the materials they need, rather than go find them, and there's lots of new armor for all the characters, even pre-exsisting Tyrian characters. So, a huge number of people have just bought their materials, jacking the price of cloth and tanned hide from 80-120g up into the 300g+ range. And I don't think it's going to be coming down any time soon. On the plus side, I've noticed that the regular mobs outside The Marketplace have a habit of dropping large ammounts of Cloth (10-14 at a time), and most of the Salvage Items make Cloth or Tanned Hide. With a little perseverance, and a bit of luck, you should be able to find enough of each to get the armor that you need. I also noticed that the Crimson Skill Raiders over on the Island will drop cloth in acceptable amounts. Just through the Naga cave, they have a stronghold. I went there with my Ranger and came out with a fair amount of cloth (almost 40 bolts, IIRC), and I didn't even take them all out. I did go it alone, and I did die a couple times, but I got some cloth and hides.

A trick you could use to take advantage of this is to find out what kind of armor you need (you should be able to get to Kaineng Center without fighting), what base material it needs, then selling the other material to the vendor. This way, you should make a good amount of gold while you're getting what you need. Maybe even enough to buy the Materials. Also, make sure you're using the Monastery Credits! That will make getting various needful things a lot cheaper. Same with the Imperial Commendations (can be traded at K. Center). Only go for what you need. Vanity after practicality.

I say that if you new guys can survive this, it'll make much better players out of you. I wish you luck on this one. You're going to need it.

Thanks for all the heads-up about trying to find all the xp available. I was much like Nirvy and feeling that I was doing great on the beginer island getting so many lvls so fast, good to find out before I leave that I better be a much higher lvl. Also thanks for the info on the armor/weapons. I noticed that there seems to be more salvage in the loot, guess I better start stockpiling it better .

Really I think that we just are used to having guides written that help out, but because Factions is so new the information for it is still very spotty if any is available at all.

Aye, i am now level 20, but i cannot afford anything better than the 45 AR armour i have been using since level 10ish, i cant even buy off the broker as they are always sold out of cloth and leather squares for my cheapest armour.

Im finding it a bit easier, but still very very difficult, as a healer Rit/Mo i cant figure out how to get my henchies to attack without me attacking first, and generally i cast all my spirits, attack, but then get ganked in a few shots by the 8 or so mobs hitting on me in my crappy armour, my henchies although appreciate this as they hardly ever die :s

Maybe making a healing/protective spirt class wasnt a smart move for my first character?

Hopefully in a few days i can find a few drops that refine into Leather squares and cloth and can get some lvl 20 armour!

As a level 12 Ritualist stepping into mainland Cantha for the first time, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't hard. However, it's far from impossible. Let your henchies do most of the work, kite around them if you're about to be attacked and let them do most of the work. It is slow going due to the henchies being weak, but it acheived results.

That's what happens when people skip all quests and walk in cheap armor
