edit: funny, changing the image That's a quest item you get from some dude to take to some place in Ascalon. I hate that quest, don't remember the name.

edit: before he changed it, there was a crappy, pre sear sword, +10 enchant and some other enchant conditions. I don't know, looks like a lame joke.

I think it's a quest reward from pre-searing when you help Prince Rurik defeat some Charr.

It's an item Warmaster Tidus gives you to give to the Priestess in Serenity Temple and then report her findings back to Tidus. The quest is called "The Troublesome Artifact".

It is not a reward it is a quest item you get for a quest called "The Troublesome Artifact". You bring it to the priestess in serenity temple. It is not an equipable item, just a regular old quest item. I have no Idea why you would want one short of completing the quest in which case you can just talk to the same NPC you got it from and you will get another.

I believe Prince Rurick will give you this quest once you have completed your first primary profession quest (ie go out to Ascalon and do what the NPC tells you to do). Either that or after you have finished the "secondary profession" quest .. or maybe once you have talked to devona and gotten the scribe's quest..

Not too sure but I always got this quest before completing the secondary profession quest but after helping Devona fight some grawl's off... Whether he offer's the quest before that is done or not I couldn't tell you, sorry.

you can get that quest right after you did your first skill-quest, where you get your first 2 skills. Search for Prince Rurik in Ascalon and he will give it to you.

Actually, I believe you have to complete "Charr in the Catacombs" first, then you get the quest when you return the claw or whatever to Rurik.

I haven't done the catacombs quest in ages but do the quest with Rurik every time. I think, as others have mentioned, that you just need to do your first primary profession quest to be able to get it.

negative, ONLY the primary profession first skill quest as originally posted, then you can talk to rurik and get the quest. It even says so on the wiki link in the OP
