Hehehehe, yeah, playing mah jong on another screen, that sounds about right for a bunch of people.

Eh, farming is fun and challenging. Just not chest farming. My friend has screens of him farming flesh golems, and it looks like a trip to do that...too bad my build isn't good enough to do it. :P

IDK, but at one point, I myself had to farm, since the price for a guild hall was pretty high, but what do you do with all those farm winnings anyway? 15k armor?

Well, thanks for the update.

Donno what farming exploit was there in Snake Dance that they fixed, but I am not worried. They can never nerf my golden farming spot!

And on the subject of farming, it's our goal to reduce the perceived need to farm.
Hi Gaile, and thank you for the explanation here.

I just wanted to voice that I've played with 4 characters now into post-sear, going through the missions and quests, with two lvl 18s that have gotten pretty far, and with just playing normally, I'd never had more than 7 plat of gold at once between all of my characters. Yes, I've bought and traded items... but nothing for more than 3k for an item either way, and I don't do it often.

So finally the other night I gave in to the whole "gotta farm" approach. At a friend's suggestion and from info on these forums, I tried the Divinity Coast <> Beetletun run for several hours, and broke 10k for the first time ever. After I was finished and sold off all the items I'd gotten, my total income was 22k. Needless to say, I was elated.

However, I was dreading having to do that run again... it wasn't fun doing the same thing over and over like that. But I'd resigned myself to doing it, basically because it was the only way I'd found to make gold that really worked for me. But then today I hear that the spot was nerfed... <sigh>. And I know that the chances of my finding another one like that are slim to none. Oh well then... back to playing normally, and crawling along financially.

I recognize your position regarding botters, and understand completely. I'm just really hoping that whatever Anet has in store helps.

They should just give money as a reward for completing a mission first time.

My way of farming is to farm as many low lvl items as possible, and sell to npc. Even gold items. I can't be bothered with all that faffing about in Lions Arch trying to make sure people can see my For Sale! line with 100 other people adding a line to chat every second.

I can make more money going back out to kill than I do standing around trying to sell stuff.

they can't possibly make it any harder. unless you are a combination of Monk and Warrior(either primary or secondary)...you have no chance of making this run.

That would be nice ^^ I mean 1 plat would rock because, I dont think your gonna be able to make that normally (okay at least I cant). I have one question, it seems like A-net is forcing you to farm for the guild hall...

I had to *farm* an awesome spot (okay I had to take henches because I'm a ranger/monk) but it got me about 1 plat per hour... If I was lucky. it took me like 1 week to raise 28k. I dont think that's how hard the game's supposed to be. if we're not being forced to farm why is everything so expensive? I mean when you're at pre-searing you can barely afford an ID kit!

Also, I have a max dmg, gold, (forget what else) and it sells for 244 gold at the merchant. What the heck are they trying to make me go broke!?

I know why people sell things for such high prices. So they can buy other stuff that they need!

I mean honestly, what 4-5k for 1 black dye! Are you trying to make us sit there and Grind???

It seems as if they're trying to make us use bots so they can ban us so we buy a new game for $50!

Yup I'm done ranting for now

I think it's only about 70 people/5 seconds...

Thats why you have all 25 of your guild members give you money/supplies to sell. It took us maybe a week to earn the 75k we needed and it didnt feel like farming, just ppl playing and pooling together their resources.

You seem to forget though, ArenaNet didn't make the price of black dye a few plat. It was purely the supply and demand. When i first played the game, I saw black dye being a few hundred gold and thought that was expensive.

The real expensive armour is really for the farmers though, just to give them a reward of something pretty. It doesn't make you any better then someone with Droknar's armour, but it usually looks better.

So while ArenaNet doesn't want people to HAVE to farm, they still reward the farmers for their work. I mean, I'm sure it does take some skill to run out into the wilderness alone and kill mobs ganging up on you all at once.

Players bring up the price not Anet(all except the id in pre-searing). When ever I leave pre-searing I have atleast 1k so its not that hard to buy the 100gold ID kit. The black dye is just supply and demand. merchants not giving good value for gold items just sucks I agree on that one though. Guild halls work on supply and demand as well so no since in getting mad at Anet their either.

Part of the problem is there is a very real desire to unlock Runes and Skill points that people are persistent to the point of fault in satiating. In the process, players end up with a large amount of Gold that they don't mind dumping into the economy because they don't care about the current gold sinks.

In my case, at least, I have no real need for Gold on my RP character. It's a big pile of numbers to me. However, there is definate value in unlocking Components, Skills, and Runes that I don't already have.

Instead of pondering the matter of percieved needs, reduce the ones that have been expressed. That is, create a gold sink where players can buy Faction or something along those lines. Make unlocks more consistent through normal play so people who are only into it for the unlocks won't need to spend large amounts of time farming, thus obtaining wealth.

I'm sorry, but that's a very bad example. Black dye has skyrocketed because of player demand, not because of Anet deciding, "Oh, let's make black dye one of the most expensive items in the game!" It's rare, yes, but it use to be only 1-1.5k per vial. I wonder who's fault it is that it's up to 5k?

Anet can't control the economy, but they're definitely doing their best to try and curve it in the right direction.

But if we close that, please don't think we're targeting farmers. We're targeting bots, and the non-legitimate elements, and the potentially damaging factors that go along with bots.
While I think it's great that you're targetting botters and are closing exploits, the sad thing is that while you are not TARGETING farmers, you ARE hitting them. I am in particular referring to the massive anti-enchantment hate that's now prevalent on MANY of the later maps. Riverside has become a nightmare mission to do with a build that relies on enchantments.

Seriously, what's up with that? Sure, it stops botters. It also stops people who rely on enchantments (mostly) for their builds. I can't get an enchantment to stay on for 0.0002 seconds in most maps now. You've essentially nerfed a whole series of skills for the sake of stopping botters. The botters simply moved on, they didn't care. But the players who ran enchantment builds are pretty stuck.

Obviously, I can make another build, or switch skills around, but enchantments were great in the game, well balanced, fun to use, and now they have simply been made redundant.

But the problem again what is considered a good value? Players are to blame again. Gold range in prices from 100 to 300 that I have seen so far so it does pay better for a better modded item. Everything is supply and demand in this game no matter how anyone looks at it.

While we're on the subject of farming, I would like to bring something up from an update that occured a couple weeks ago.

Quote:
Fixed issues with last week's update that could cause loot drops to completely stop for some players after repeated map entries, and substantially improved the loot system so that only the most extreme forms of farming will cause monsters to start to run low on loot.
I would like a little clarification on what the "most extreme forms of farming" are. For example, if I'm bored one day and decide to clear out an area over and over for 2 hours, is that "extreme farming"? What about if I do this for 2 hours every day for a week? Or does that really only apply to insane spells of, say, 12 hours or more straight?

It would be helpful to know exactly how the game determines what is overkill (whether it's the amount of times you enter an area per day or week, or how many times you kill the same mobs, or whatever). The problem with that is that information would also be helpful for botters to figure out how to set their bots so it isn't detected as easily.

Anyone have any insight?

i think the exploit in snakes dance was the griffins that are easy to farm, they give good experience and good loot.
