I started up Guild Wars to make sure that my account was still intact, but instead of getting the regular "Your account is all set up, but there is no event running ... " message, I got this:
Guild Wars was unable to connect to the server due to a network or server error.
If this problem persists, please visit www.guildwars.com/support for additional help. (Err=5)
Same thing happens when I try to request my password. (Not that I don't have it, just used it as a test.)
Some people with similar problems have been given responses like, ISP problems, router problems etc.
I would like to know the cause of my problem.
I have an internet connection, I have played Guild Wars on this computer for the prior BWEs, and the problem seems to have begun today.

It might be some server maintenance at ArenaNet, or it might be caused by something else(router down between you and them, or something similar). I'd say hold off for a day or two and see if it keeps happening. If you keep having that problem, I'd recommend contacting ArenaNet's support and seeing if they might have a better idea of what could be causing it.

I just had to wait a few hours.
I read and attempted some solutions I read on the other forums but the most likely cause was something in the connection between the server and I, because none of the "solutions" (disable firewall, restarting comp etc.) worked.
Maybe someone will make an official comment on what causes the error that I received.
