Movement

I have done a descent amount of research ont his game and I have to say I am very excited for release day. I haven't been able to track down the method of movement though....are we talking point and click or can we configure for mouselook? Thanks in advance to all the replies to this newb question.

You can point and click, just click on where you want to go and you'll start running. You can also use the arrow keys, as well as the traditional "WASD" setup. WASD is convienient because you have your skill buttons on top of you and your "Target Nearest Enemy" and button under you (C) and "Target Called Enemy" to the right (T). Not quite sure what mouselook is, I will defer to my fellow posters.

Mouselook entails holding down the right mouse key to move your character around. Everquest and WoW both use them as well as DAoC...just curious as this is the main form of movement I am used to and was wondering if I should break out my old copy of Dungeon Siege to practice point and click hehe.

left mouse key..held down, with cursor to your fore..you will move in that direction and it will auto orientate in direction you are going...until you stop..when you stop..holding mouse button this way sometimes over compensates itself and you have to adjust with arrow keys........or..you could just use the arros keys.

Rail movement.

I have found the game is damn near impossible to play using the mouse for movement. I believe most players, like myself, use the WASD keys for movement. If you use the keyboard for movement, the "camera" will always stay behind you and in the same relative position (terrain permitting). When you use the mouse for movement, the "camera" doesn't auto-orient like it does when using the keyboard.

Mouse-based movement is so annoying, the developers added a checkbox in the options so you can turn it off entirely, preventing your character from running off somewhere just because you clicked there. Use the keyboard, you'll be much happier.

Holding down the right click allows you to sort of pan your viewing area. It also allows you to strafe with using the arrow keys. So if you are running straight, and you right click and look to your right with the camera, your character will strafe left perpendicular to where you are looking.

It was obvious for most FPS gamers, since circle strafing and such is a needed skill. Not so much in GW, but it easily allows dodging of power shots.

The next time you play the game, try holding down BOTH mouse keys at the same time. Movement is much smoother and easier to control, and you won't get the camera angle adjustment when you stop. The mouse is just too cumbersome for the more involved battles, though. I will need to practice up on my keyboard skills to be anywhere NEAR skilled enough in battle to be competitive in the later areas.

The mouse is essential, since it's far too awkward to use Q and E for strafing. It makes circle strafing impossible.

And they don't use the FPS system either, where W S is up down, and A D is strafe left/right, and mouse is to determine turning point. Rather, it just turns the camera angle, unless you hold right click, which allows you to strafe.

yep, I use wasd with mouselook. I hate the point and click movement and wish I could turn it off completely. However Mouselook with wasd works great.

can you change the keys in options, i know it should be obvious but from reading this post it seems as though the default keys are locked??

you can change your keys.

so than could u make a and d strafe right? so this really isn't a big deal if thats true right? or maybe i'm totallly like need to start going to class instead of wasting money on my college to learn to read lol.

if you hold down the right mouse button, you strafe with a and d, but yes you can assign right and left strafe to those keys.

I hold the W key for forward momentum and use the left & right arrow keys to turn in either direction, no camera problems that way and keeps me from banging my head into stuff.
Use the R key to auto run, great for running or following someone for long distances. Another way of following someone is to L click on his or her name and press the space bar.

You can in the key customize under options. There is a check box that allows you to disable pnc movement.
