I may sound like a moron here, but this should be a simple question to be answered. And to those who will automatically try to find a reason to delete my post, let it be answered.

How does a ranger release his "pet" and then get a new one in return?

You can give your pet away to the animal collector npc, don't worry, you won't miss him in game.

You don't sound like a moron, it's actually something not easy to find out about at a first glance.

There are "pet collectors" scattered around the world in Guild Wars; one is for example next to a Ranger trainer in pre-searing Ascalon. If you have a pet you wish to get rid of, you just speak to the pet trader and he'll take it from you.

I haven't played rangers very much so I can't give you a list of any post-searing traders right now, but I think there's someone just outside a city in an explorable area. Don't recall if it was in Ascalon, Lion's Arch, both, or neither.

There's another 'Tamer' (the name given to NPCs who take pets) hanging around right outside of seared Ascalon, in the first Explorable Area - can't miss him.

So you cant just go up to another animal and do the charm spell to replace your current one? I would like to have a wolf, right now I have the very first animal you get for the quest.

Nope. You need to hand off your current pet to the Tamer before you can replace it with a new one.

It really isn't hard to get rid of one pet and get another. As long as you know a good zone that your desired pet spawns in, you just go there and charm your pet. With my old ranger, I got rid of my Moa Bird to get a Snow Wolf. There was one zone where Snow Wolves usually spawned near the beginning, so I just kept going in and exiting until I found one to charm.

This is a little off-topic, but since I'm a Ranger, I've wanted a Wolf all my life. But I can't get it, that Break Charm is so very annoying.

Can someone tell me a good way to catch it?
