I'm a level 7 W/R...I decided to continue my ventures into the future.

Is the rest of the game ugly and have fire and shit all over the place? I want my beatiful game with sun back!

This is a family-friendly forum, and cursing is not neccessary.
Be careful about how you use language in future.

No it isn't all desolation.. You also get to play in snowy mountains, verdant jungles, sandy deserts, and a few other settings.

yes, it's quite varied. Although I agree, before I crossed the mountains I was finding Ascalon quite a depressing place. My advice is explore fully, try to see the ruins everywhere and remember/imagine what a great place it must have been. When you finally get to cross the mountains into Kryta you'll be thankful that you spent so much time in desolation. It's like going from a darkened room into open sunlight... beautiful!

Ascalon was the hit worst by the searing. Consequently, other places are less screwed up

You have seen only a tenth of the game map. Patience child, the best is yet to come.

Ascalon was blasted to smithereens, but you won't be staying there long to "enjoy the view". Hie thee up to the Great Northern Wall and get thee hence to Fort Ranik! Start the missions. You can always come back for quests if you want to do them, but the missions progress you through the story line and, subsequently, through prettier areas.

Hey, you can sort of revisit presearing by getting the wizards guild hall I believe? Its the same set of landscape objects but the sky is a bit darker.

hoy hoy? What is this? What's the difference between the guild hall and the wizard's guild hall? Is it actually Ascalon or is it just the "reproduced landscape" (ie. an illusion devoid of people)

Wait until you reach Lion's Arch. Wow, that place is gorgeous; it makes Ascalon look like a slum.

Ascalon is a slum post-Searing, so that's not hard .

I like post-Searing Ascalon. I liked to explore and to try and match up each area to parts that I had explored in pre-Searing Ascalon. For example, it took me a while to realise that Ascalon City was now based in what used to be a lake of some sorts. And exploring ruins is always fun -- a sense of real history in a false universe is an interesting concept. Exploring the tombs of Korriban on KOTOR was one of my favourite parts and this game's no different... only, the whole of Ascalon is a tomb!

There is a screenshot section on these forums.... you haven't seen anything till you've been to Lions Arch.

Try that on for size.

Here's to hoping that they fix Ascalon. Hey, I beat the game. Why can't I see the nicer version of Ascalon?

Yeah, it's quite dreadful when you have to hang around Ascalon for so long. At the same time though, as you're wandering, you should be going "Oh shit! I remember that when it was from pre-searing! Wow, that got so messed up!" or "Oh geeze, that looks so different from how it was '2 years ago'!"

It's really neat to be walking around and recognize pre-searing locations in the scorched version.

That is, assuming you spent a lot of time in the newbie area like me. Remakes will do that though, lol.

I personally loved post-searing Ascalon. The blasted post apocalypic landscape was a very nice change from the post card idyllic pre-searing Ascalon - a setting I hate in most games. Not a big fan of green grass and flowers .

Give me desert, mountains and ruins any day - and fortunately you get all of these as you move on in the game.

There are some truly stunning views in many parts of the ruined lands around Ascalon - standing on a hill looking miles away out over the landscape and ruins of buildings and walls, with rays from that amazing yellow/orange sky streaming down.

Hehe yes I personally found pre searing Ascalon to be particular depressing and bleak. I was well impressed by the graphics when I started GW and actually felt a bit disappointed when going past the starter area. Thank god the landscapes change a lot later.

Still, I think they could have done a better job with pre searing Ascalon instead of making it all grey in grey, have some areas still smoldering or do some truly bizarre texture work since the damage was brought on by magic.

The ring of fire is ugly too. My favorite times are either in the shiverpeaks, or the jungle.
