pump up fire, use some big time AOE dmg dealer (or ice or light or earth)and echo it, then spam flare (or light strike or ice spear or whatever), i heard this works very well
When usig Backfire you have to find a skill bar that allows him to use every skill before backfire runs out i have yet to found out a good group of skills for this

I retried, and casted the energy glyph then arcane echo before going in...failed. I then retried and added distortion (died at 1/2 life as well).
maybe ele/me at level 12 isnt possible

Actually the first time I did it was when I was level 9 and brought Meteor Shower, I managed to get one off before dying and I just waited until the mirror guy died. I got the 50,000xp or whatever, got boosted upto about level 15 then destroyed him.
