How do I split a stack?

I'm experimenting with dyes, but I don't want to mix 11 silver with 10 green. Can someone answer my question?

You can't split stacks of items. However, when you mix dyes, it automatically consumes one of each; you don't have to worry about mixing 20 at the same time.
