I most definitely don't team up with a char called "Asdasdasd Asdasdads". I know they migh be just Korean, but I am not taking chances. When you can't be bothered to give your character a real name, I can't be bothered to heal you. A nobody gets nothing.

I have to say that "gogogogo" always is a sign to me of being impatient so I will always boot/leave. Basically anyone that is too impatient to get a proper team formed or that is in a rush of any sort I usually just leave/boot. I can understand time constraints but don't go on a farming trip.

Just my 2¢ for what its worth. I agree with all the other stuff thus far.

Wow! Great responses.

To those of you who think I'm an elitist... I'm really not. I just have a finite amount of time to dedicate to GuildWars. I want the maximum amount of profit/time from a farming run. I'm the same way about missions... I want to succeed on the first try. (Neither is always possible, but with good team players it's much more likely.)

So no hard feelings eh?

P.S. All you slow-loading monks: I still love your heals/prots/bonds!

It doesnt matter who is in your group (with the exception of guilded groups) wether you succeed or not purely depends on everyone doing their part, equally. If you have one person in the group who is picky and cannot play in groups unless he or she has complete control over everything and everyone then the rest of the group wont feel the need to try because you obviously seem like you have everything under control. I have been in groups with people who are the stereotypical "noob" and we owned because no one gave a damn, we just play - Afterall thats what games are for and this is a game so stop treating it like youre drafting a team for the world series or something.

It's just that after countless horrible farming PUG runs I've come up with a series of red-light indicators that help insure a bit more success.

(Alas, since it's spring break time here in the U.S. even these aren't failsafe, but they will help avoiding idiots.)

1. Any player that has a name with a reference to how much pot he/she smokes. Keywords here: Toke/Tokage/Blazin/Ganja/Spliff/Tokin/Smokin/Dooby/Doobage etc. You get the picture. Don't ask me why, but warriors seem to favor this type of reference. My personal experience is that these individuals are self centered and will cause the group to wipe by either being greedy or careless.

2. Any player that uses "leet" speak in their name. Worst offenders: Names with "teh" "pwn" "lol" "rofl". If you put a z at the end then multiply by 2x the horibble behavior you're likely to encounter. If there's a "zer" at the end of these words then multiply by 4x. If multiple leet words appear... well don't say I didn't warn you. Same experience as for #1.

3. Any player that has "Godly" in their name. That's just too much self esteem for me. Likely this guy will either rant/whine the whole time if somebody makes a mistake. He'll scream for heals or bitch if he's the monk when someone gets out of range. Just not worth the aggravation. He's probably capable, but there are better team players out there.

4a. Any monk that slow loads right after we zone into the map (especially on a small team). Sure, sure... it could be that they're on a modem, but I don't want a monk on a modem healing me. That's split second stuff and if you're lagging through your modem then you're gonna wipe the team. Some members can get away with being on modem, but monks can't.
4b. Okay, they've never been there before. Not a big deal, but I usually ask up front. That way I (and the rest of the team) can adjust tactics and suggest skills for the new person. If they are too insecure or smug to let us know then they shouldn't be on the team.

5. People that ask if we can detour and do some other thing. No! We grouped to farm a specific area, not go running for some BS thing. Get henchies for your detour.

6. Someone in the group tries to sell you the green items he/she has using the team chat channel. If I want sales spam I'll go to Drok's/Ascalon. Besides, I probably already have the item you're trying to sell me.

7. A player that announces he/she is taking a skill that either unnecessary or utterly useless/wrong for the farming situation. Said player is advised by the rest of the group that the skill is bad and still refuses to change it. Ego... a bad sign.

I still can't spot the guy who will suddenly go AFK. That seems to affect all player types equally.

The real solution... join a farming guild and go with people you trust. Or make friends with people you've found to be good and farm with them.

I'd love to hear other people's lists.

Cheers!
Well, lol, I guess I am a bad offender, my second and third characters are Disease Pwn and Element Pwn.

OK, hold the phone. I'm a great example of this... I've found the most fun I've had in PuGs is with groups formed exactly this way... non-"standard" groups, take who joins (and a monk or two, no 55s) and just see what happens. It's not that "we're not picky", it's more that "everyone's welcome to give it a shot".

I'll tell you something... take two or three domination mesmers into FoW with Shatter Hex and Inspired Hex (amongst other skills)... it really has a positive effect on the teams performance. The "standard" 0 to 1 mesmer max group really doesn't know what they're missing.

Warning sign for me:

Monk joins (often Mo/W)
"Are you heal or protect?"
>silence<

That sets off all the alarms and I immediately request a ranger to find room for Symbiosis. Hey, it's great in the Fissure...

My personal favorite-Actually happened:
I reached level 20 with my warrior and decided that, since i have completed all of the quests, i would help people that neede dit in their numerous quests. So, after writing a public message, i get this pm from a ranger who asks me if i can help him in one quest. So, i agree, and meet up with him, and i have to admit, i was quite surprised. The ranger was level 13, however, he still had stock equipment, down to the t. I was stunned. I asked him why he didnt buy better equipment, to which his response was "i am saving money up for later on." Now, this should have been an indicator to me that he was going to be the shittiest player that i had ever been with in a quest. However, i told myself that he could not be that bad, i mean honestly, he got to level 13 with those stock things. So, we start out on this quest, only me and him, becaus ehe didnt like goin g in large groups. Right form the beginning, everything began to go downhill. For starters, the guy would run in and start shooting arrows at charrs point blank. I told him, let me handle the melle and you backme up form long range. He said ok, and after believing that problem was settled, i set 0uot once more to complete the quest. However, within a minute when i looked on my minimap, his dot was incredibly far away form me, and he was heading in the wrong direction. I then recieved a message form him a second after loking at my minimap and it read "Where the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO are you, you newb??? im taking on an entire army here!!!!" i didnt write anythign and instead set right out to find him, and when i did, i was stunned. He was running away with roughly 30-25 enemies on his ass. I wa slike"OMFG!" so i run in with my hammer, and begin killing the guys, but eventually was overrun, and then he was killed as well. After failing the quest, the guy said to me, and i quote: "You are the worst RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing player ever, a newb, you aren't worthy of playing with me." So, i figured that would be the end of it, and i didnt say anything, because obviously this guy was hard headed and would not listen to reaosn. So i departed from him thinking it owuld be the last time that i would see him. However, fate worked out perfectly for me, as i met up with him in PvP, and well, you can imagine what happened, lmao, i went after him everytime, killing him in about five shots, i didn't care about anyone else, lol. Well, thats my story, hmmm, cough cough, don't know if i just ranted there or if it had anything to do with this thread.

That's probably my fault -- I'm the one that invented the suicide trick. Do you remember the person's name?

I've challenged people in Ascalon to keep me alive - I go by the name "Unclean Ranger". But NEVER in a mission -- that's just annoying.

Holy Lack of Paragaphs Batman!

Umm, you didn't tell us where you were helping people out, so a level 13 might not be out of line. Also, you should know that level, and even what weapons or armor you are wearing is a definate indicator of skill. Some people would call you the worst warrior ever because you use a hammer.

Well it's just as well that he didn't write a whole paragraph, because most of us wouldn't read it if he did. When I see these new posts with huge blocks of text and the first few sentences are angry reasons why we suck for participating in this thread, I just stop reading and move on to the next post

Bobrath, thanks for reminding me about the drawing.

Fem's #1 rule: NO drawing on the mini-map unless it's absolutely necessary. I will not tolerate that.
