I think that whenever you are in a city you should be able to click on any player, and right next to the trade button see another button that says "Duel".

Upon clicking this button, a msg will be sent to the target player saying something along the lines of "Kyraith has challenged you to a duel. Do you accept? (yes/no buttons)"

If the other player accepts the duel you will both be zoned into a "dueling zone" kinda like the sparring room in The Matrix. (I think it would be cool if the gfx of the zone were chosen at random, mabey 1 time you duel near a waterfall, and another time you duel in a forest clearing, and yet another time you duel in a bloody pit) The zone would simply be a medium sized open space with invisable walls inclosing it in a circle.

After the duel a button would pop up saying "Rematch?" If both players chose yes, then they go another round, if no, then both players are taken back to the city district they just left.

I know 1v1 dueling isnt fair because of the rock paper scissors aspect of this game. But it would be a great way to test out a build or just pass time while waiting on a friend.

Let me know your thoughts.

No, there is no strategy implemented in 1v1. It's even less then the Gladiator Arena.

Kiwi, your right however do you ALWAYS crave strategy? I know I don't. I have a few RL friends that play Guildwars and i can say- they talk a lot of trash and there would be nothing more pleasing than to stomp them in a 1v1 arena. I cannot tell how how many times i have tried to coordinate getting into the arena match with friends/guildmates just to 1v1 them off to the side. Not everything has to be implemented into the lore/stratics of the game. Have some fun!

I voted yes, but I realized after the fact that there would be a problem with that. Anybody who was a Monk, had a Monk secondary, or had any sort of healing spell to compliment their normal abilities would just be able to heal anytime they wanted to, and there would never be any winner. I don't know about you, but I would not want to be involved in a fight just to see who just walks away from the game first because of frustration. If you could restrict peoples healing abilities somehow, then the idea would be good and you wouldn't have to worry about that little problem.

Well I do crave strategy, but all strategy like Final Fantasy Tactics can get a little boring. I like the mix. But no strategy is bad, no action is boring.

AND VOTE "NO" PEOPLE!!!

Trexton has the gist of it, its not about fairness of it, I know in WoW I would sit and watch palladins duel for 30 minutes against each other. I think it would just be fun to say, hey I got this new skill I want to try out, let me test it on you. Or even damn whats taking that guy so long, lets duel while we wait.

A good build is not necessarily one that can solo, in my opinion. It needs to play off the strenghts and weaknesses of your team. I don't see how 1v1 can test out a build. The fact of the matter is you are going 1 on 1 with a build that should be designed for 4v4 or 8v8.

As for the fun, sure a lot of people would find it fun. I doubt I would, but that doesn't mean I'm going to say "no" to the idea. If this is what the majority of the community wants, then hopefully it's something they will look into. But the game is Guild Wars, which comes across to me as more referring to multi-playing PvP like they have. I rather them focus on adding new maps and games for this than waste time and resources on 1v1 stuff.

They system is already in there with the arenas programing, the onlyn thing they would have to bother with is making a quick map for dueling, but even there the could copy art from somewhere else in the land, like say the statue of greneth in catacombs, and just put collision barriers around it

not much wasted resourse right there

I really don't see why this shouldn't be added, hence my voting "yes".

However, the game really is geared more for group efforts, so it might not be a priority to create such an arena.

I would use such an option for testing, nothing more. While it would be fun for awhile to take my warrior into a 1v1 arena and slaughter helpless mesmers and necros, it wouldn't get me that "rush" that GvG or Tombs does.

I want to be able to pick my opponent so I can test my skills vs a certain armor level/character and whatnot.

The only way I can see a 1v1 random arena working is if it is not random, but instead you agree to fight a person. Otherwise you end up with healing monks fighting healing monks and we all know how that ends...it doesn't.

I'd vote but I don't think there are enough options. So my vote is more of a "Yes, but..."

Yea man, but say your haging out at your guild and you got a GvG battle comming up in say 10 mins...you can practice your skills sets and decide what set your gonna go with, just pass the time in friendly competition with your guildmates, theres so much that it offers, and if you feel it takes away so much from your game...you can always click no when ever someone challenges you. but I have a feeling even those voting no now, if it goes in game, will find themselves dueling their close friends at some point or another for a lil fun.

Even if its in game, you dont have to use it...

But if its not in game those who do want to use it cant...thats no good.

As to taunts, never had a problem with it. Every game I ever played, dueling was friendly, and when you lose you say, wow nice move, what was that combo you used right there? ohh really thats an awesome idea man, well done...

Not "OMG Haxors i Fin hate you 1337 @$$"

I'm sorry, but I'd rather roleplay. It just doesn't interest me to see if I have better skills then my oponent.

I've read the arguments for and against, and I very much understand those against it, but I'd still like to duel people for fun every now and then. It'd be fun.
