As a Mo/Me I'm constantly changing who I'm selecting. I would like to be able to click on a party member and hit a key to select who they are fighting (who they have selected). Not targeted, but selected. I don’t think the "T" key will work for this.
Is there a way to do it?

A basic assist is where you target a teammate (or mob) then hit your 'assist' key, which automatically detargets the teammate (or mob) and targets their target instead. Your target will only change when you press the assist button.
Proxy target is a little more advanced and involves two windows: (1) your regular target window, and (2) a proxy target window that dynamically updates to display your target's target, so you can see it at a glance (without having to press an assist key). Some games (e.g. EQ2) use this to allow you to both heal and attack without having to switch targets -- keep your tank targeted and your beneficial spells will automatically land on him (in your target window), while detrimental spells will automatically land on his target (the mob in your proxy target window).
Proxy targeting is a handy feature, though I think a basic assist would suffice for GW to avoid dumbing down PvP too much. Either way, neither form of assisting is currently in game!

(Edit: didn't realise the distinction you were making between 'selected' and 'targeted' before I posted -- I normally use 'target' and 'called target', respectively. The mob in your target window is your 'target', whether or not it's being attacked. In GW, the mob that has been called in group chat, the one you'll target if you press 'T' to assist, is the 'called target'. At least, that's how it works in my mind... too many years of MMOs to change my terminology just for GW!
