Hello, I live in Australia were Guild Wars isn't sold, unless it's imported from Europe. I saw on the website that you can download it, so I did, now I have the exe and two other files on my computer, I understand this isn't the full game but how do I get the whole thing?

I also realise you need to get a serial key, I heard that PlayNC.com sells them for $48 AUD.

So if I have a serial key and login to the current GW exe on my computer will it download the whole game?

Thanks.

If you have a serial key and the exe downloaded, the rest will be streamed to you I believe.
Wait for a confirmation from another poster though, I'm not an expert here.

...
erm
...

Who gave you the idea that you can't buy guildwars in australia?
Anywhere who sells games near you should be able to get it for you if they don't already, visit places like electronics boutique, or harvey normans, or whatever is close.

If you've downloaded the client, then yeh, if you buy the key you will be set to get going. I imagine there will be varying updates and the such you will need to get at first, but assuming you have a alright connection, you'll be up and running in no time.

Welcome to guildwars.

I have 8MB ADSL so it should download alright .
Um, I went to Harvey Norman and the clerk told me that only EB sells it, I didn't really want to travel all the way to the city to buy it so assuming it's cheaper just to download it and buy a $48 serial key should be better.

Thanks, for the fast responses.

EDIT: Oh and one more question, what is the size of the download roughly?

Well, I just bought the CD Key off NCPlay.com and am already in the game, I just need to make my character now.

Thanks.

Actually due to the streaming nature of Guild Wars, you download each area/piece as you need/reach it. The client (Which you've already downloaded) keeps track of what has been downloaded and where you are in the game. Except for changes to the engine most updates are streamed to you in the back ground while you're playing. The Map for each area will load the first time you enter an area. So get yourself a key and you're ready to go.

NOTE: to try to answer your latest question you have to realise that the individual maps vary in size and only download when you reach that area. There is no massive download of files except on very rare occasions. We had quite a large download when they introduced the PVP Factions weekend. Of course they did move all PVP at that time and included a lot of stuff for language support for the release of GW in Taiwan. It was the largest update since the release of the game.

its streamed to you as you go. so each new area is a new large download. the gw.dat file however once everything is downloaded is currently
1.16 GB (1,256,957,440 bytes)

just to give you an idea...

BTW you can do
Quote:
C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe -update
and it will stream the entire 1.16 gb in one wap if you want too... Like for an over night thing...

Hi, rather then start a new topic, I was wondering when making a character why I can't click on runes. I've read some guides saying base + hat + rune, but I can't seem to select runes.

Thanks Ingram, I mite do that tonight.

Oh I found out you need to buy those runes. Anyways, with your method Ingram it doesn't seem to work. I put:

"C:\Games\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -update

In the shortcut link and nothing happens that looks like my game is updating.

hum ... try repair as well.. I know it suppose to flag something that grabs the full dat file with update... but alas the switch commands are relatively undocumented...

I have a doubt, I got a GW key and I got the client. Now it is at 200 MB, and The game is titled Guild Wars: Factions.

Am I downloading Factions or GW?

You will now download the factions data (being as they are both run from the same client) but cannot run it without a new key. This will be in addition to the GW data.

By the way, apparently if you leave Guild Wars on the char selection screen (I think either that or the logon screen) then it will download the data without, for the overnight job someone mentioned earlier... I read it in a forum somewhere.

If I had a capped line, I'd be pretty pissed about DL-ing Factions content that I wasn't planning on buying until I finished Prophecies.
