Credit for the original idea goes to hailstorm on the GameFAQS.com forums. I've just expanded it a little:
A minimal number of equip (1-2) and inventory (<5) slots for pets.
Equip Slots would allow customization of pets through items such as Collars or Harnesses, which could give minor stat boosts, have different appearances, and would be able to dye added jsut like playe armor.
Inventory Slots would allow your animal to act as a pack mule, at the cost of a penalty to performance in combat.

I like the idea of pet skills being added to your pet. Something like your pet having its own skill bar. Like you would still have to have charm pet on your skill bar but your pets skill bar could be used for things like comfort pet, Call of Protection etc. Also the pet getting its own customized armor would be cool. Nothing like your pet walking around in Knights Armor but something along the lines of light armor like your ranger has. I would also pay the gold to get your pet things like previously mentioned, collars. But storage I really cant see someone with a Spider going into tombs and there being a backpackon the spider. or saddle bags hanging off your Elder Wolf. So no on storage personally but yes to skills bar, armor & items that would individualize your pet.
