I'm sure people have said this before, but:

I was just trying out the mantra of recall boon prot in random arenas. At the end of a pretty tough fight, which i managed to keep to flawless by the skin of my teeth, the ranger turns to me and says

"monk, why didn't you heal my pet?"

I mean, ffs. Some people.

oh, and, i'm a convert to mantra of recall over OoB now. Having mesmer secondary allows you so much more (inspired hex etc) and combining it with contemplation....it's great

stop the chuck norris nonesense. the jokes are dead and buried.

on topic: Its only typical of a ranger to worry about their pet because it is directly linked to them skills and being disabled when your pet dies is a real pain.

However having been both a monk and a ranger,i think its really up to the ranger.

In the higher levels, having a pet can be a big big liability and a waste of slots.

even if you are running a R/Mo with mending/protective bond and symbiotic bond on your pet, later levels become very dangerous for a beastmaster.

The monk's priority is the players, not the pet. I only ever heal a pet when its used to set off traps in pvp.

Yeah, had a necro get angry with me for not healing her minions once when we were down one monk already (dropper x.x).. You're still alive... How 'bout I heal the minions and not you next time? Actually no, don't want to fight masterless minions, just making a point... Isn't that her job anyway as a mm? o.o

And yeah, this guy's been basically spamming every thread with harmless yet incredibly annoying Chuck Norris stuff.

Go to killing ifrit, you will be accepted there with your Chuck Norris junk.

On topic, I never really liked playing monk, because people never gave you enough credit. You heal everyone, and then they get mad because their pet died.

I don't heal incompetent players when I'm in a party. They just waste experience and loot - and one of the easiest ways to identify an incompetent Ranger is to watch him bring a pet, but no pet skills, using a bow, and all marksmanship. Until idiots quit doing that, beastmastery will never be taken seriosuly. If you see "Ferocious Strike" however, you'd better take care of fluffy.

I too have both monk and ranger. If the party is in danger, heal the party. However if everyone is doing ok and you have a bit of extra energy, heal the pet. It's not gonna harm, and as said, if it dies your ranger is useless for 8 seconds, meaning the battle could well draw out longer and increase chances you will run out of healing/they will be outdamaged and killed.

As a ranger I would never insist my pet be healed before anyone else, and I would always insist on bringing Comfort Animal, if only to cover my own back from unusable skills, but as a Monk I would never refuse to heal a pet with no good reason either

Thats true. I had never played ranger so I forgot about the 8 second thing. I guess it all comes down to the overall status of the team. If everyone else is fine for the moment, you can go ahead and heal the pet, but in the middle of the fray, it is probably more important to save the team. It would be bad to have a usless ranger for 8 seconds, but worse to have him die, because you were healing his pet.

I've always wanted to build a monk BUT all the flaming I see monks get makes me think twice. They can only heal so fast, especially when they are stuck with players who aggro everything and expect to be kept alive by the monk while the rest of their team drops like flies.

Good points and as someone who plays both Ranger and Monk primaries I agree, I also agree that any ranger who brings a pet also should bring Comfort Animal.

Mind you, I've never had any ranger (primary or seconday) give me stick about not healing his pet.

Fine grrrrr....
and i said your avatar was the best....

I ususally avoid healing anybody who talks back to me, such as when a paladin tells me I should do something different in my build when his deaths are his fault...
Or the phrase "rez me..." Do you want to stay dead?
